I realize there are other Protank Coil threads which are very informative and extensive. I didnt want this getting lost in the vastness of some 300page thread, as it has completely changed the way I think about rebuilding my coils. So, here ya go.
So ive seen others use twisted kanthal on other builds and have heard of it used with the protank coils. I was hitting a wall, getting really good performance with boring consistancy from 30ga kanthal and 1\16" coils, but im always looking for something better. Well, I found it and it rocks.
First off, your gonna need some kind of locking pliers or hemostats.
I used 32ga kanthal, doubled it up, locked the open end in the pliers and stuck a toothpick through the looped top.
twist, twist, twist Once it looks like rope, maybe 30twists per 4inch section (8inches before its folded over), your good.
Torch
I used a 1\16" drill bit to wrap, 8wraps(1.4ohm)-11wraps(1.8ohm)
compress coil and torch
Install in coil head
I used cotton yarn, a full piece works best (end pinched and twisted to thread through) , but you can use what ever suits you.
I found, that the 8wrap coils almost produce too much vapor (which may be perfect for 3.7v batteries), but the 11wrap coils are quite a bit smoother on my vamo.
The good news is, these work fabulously on ego batteries and dont seem to require a VW to perform decently.
Hope this helps someone get a better vape from their protank
