Suggestion: TI PTN04050C

A lot of people are starting to use the TI PTN04050C DC-DC converter board to get 5V/6V out of 3.7V batteries in their projects. Perhaps this is something you could carry in your shop?

It's a great Idea.. The TI one's are about $15 each but National Semi conductor has a design tool to build these based on thier components.. I've currently got a craigslist ad going for an electronics guy to design a more cost effective circuit for us. Meeting with the first guy on Tuesday

That is awesome! Since you're designing from scratch, perhaps you could get him to design it to go below 5V. Being fully adjustable from 3.7-6.5V would be ideal. And if it's cheaper, that's always a plus too.

Oh, and since you're getting into the fabrication buisness, might you consider something like this? The only problem appears to be heat dissipation, which could be solved by using a finned aluminum tube tube. Sort of like this RC motor heatsink, only without the gap and to the proper diminsions, obviously.

We're currently testing a disc but it's geared toward the VapeStack size wise for a 5 volt option.. Pop it in 5 volts,take it out 6 volts

Even a "it's being worked on" would be nice. I want to try to fix the 5V mode in my NES controller mod and a board like this would be perfect. Do you have something in the works, or should I go ahead and drop $15 for the TI board from Mouser?

If he can(& I'm sure he will) get the price lower than the Ti booster boards, I'm all over this. I've gotten really attached to an eclipse tin with an 18650 & a booster @ 5v in it with a 510 carto on it.

That Ti board is adjustable. You can put a resistor across pins 1 & 3 to set the voltage. The output can be set from 5v to 15v. If left empty, it defaults to 5v.

You could put a pot in there. Only thing is that the minimum it puts out is 5v. I guess you could put another pot after it & drop it lower if you wanted less than 5v.

Nuck uses a few resistors on his fistpacks:
Resistors (10k, 47k, 75k, 150k) - All resistors should be 1/8 watt or better. Variable (4.35, 4.60, 4.75, 4.95v under load)
so i guess a simple POT would work

For those that want the slider to output between 4.0 and 4.5v there is a really easy trick that RjG shared with me. If you add a 100k resistor between the Adj pin and and vOut pin on the booster the 4 voltages will be changed to:

4.0v
4.15v
4.3v
4.5v

The diode in the build is still required.
