I want to build a 510 mod. I want 5v and supper long battery life like over the 2000 mAh area. Any suggestions on battery configurations to use and how to get the voltage at 5v? And any flashlight cases that will fit that battery and have space to get the 5v i want? Thanks for your suggestions and time!

Tricky.

2000mAh's . . . you'd be looking at the 18650 li-ion's, without a doubt. For 5v's, you'd need two of them (7.4v) with some kind of voltage regulation circuit in place, usually a MOSFET. I've never wired one, so I couldn't tell you the process to do so, but that might help you get pointed in the right direction, or someone else might chime in with more help.

Would something like this work
DealExtreme: $19.47 3500mAh USB Emergency Power Battery Pack with Cell Phone Adapters

Take it apart, the output of whatever your charging to the atty, put in a different case. It's like roughly 3" by 2 3/4". I guess my real question would it power a atty?

Just looking to much at DX and kept seeing them and thinking of the possibilities with something like this if it would power an atty.

Model: MND0608000-11- Capacity 3500mAh (manufacturer rated)
- Input (charging): 5.3V 600mA
- Output (discharging): 5.5V 400mA
- Cell phone adapters included (see pictures for comptability)
- Perfect for cell phones, PDA, MP3/MP4, game devices such as PSP/NDS (optional cables required)
- 100~240V AC Charger included

No, it would probably detect over current and shut down if it's properly protected.
I have a 500ma unit that shuts down immediately if you try to power an atty.
My 1500ma Kensington works fine though ;)

-Actually it probably would work if the atty is powered by the battery while charging. Sorry I misunderstood. It just wouldn't power an atty directly.

I haven't seen anyone try a 5 V voltage regulator yet

SparkFun Electronics - Voltage Regulator - 5V

Here is a 5v regulator I just finished today. It is fantastic.

TI # UCC383TDKTTT-5G3

Wiring is not very organized yet. I just installed the regulator 30 mins ago.

One of the engineers I work with gave it to me out of a spare parts box. Pretty sure it came from digikey, mouser, or newark

I usually use Radio Shack part# 274-0644 for my mods

part #: 275-644 :p

nice switch, very hard to work with after a couple of hours of heavy vaping though
