Hey cybervex - it is possible to get a couple more pics showing the regulator connections a bit better?

Sorry about the bad pic. Taken from an iphone. The parts are at home so I could not take another.

Would you attach that regulator to some kind of heatsink to keep the plastic box from melting? I'm just curious as to how hot it gets and if a nicostick type arrangement would survive.

I have not had it get hot enogh to melt the case but I did make a heatsink out of some brass shim stock. I shaped the shim into a coil with a flat area to touch the metal side of the regulator.

From the literature, this one appears to have a 7v minimum input - can anyone verify this, and does it affect operation? IOW, does it still continue to work AFTER the input drops below 7v?

Could you be a bit more specific on which literature you are referring to? Voltage input is stated at 5.45 to 9 volts

Digi-Key - UCC283TDKTTT-5G3-ND (Texas Instruments - UCC283TDKTTT-5G3)

The actual datasheet from TI states on page 3 "VIN=5.15 V to 9 V"

The one I was speaking of was from sparkfun, and linked in my post. Their literature shows a Vmin of 7v, max of 25v.

With a quantity available of zero, Digikey isn't helping me any more than TI is with not shipping to APO/FPO. Does anyone ELSE carry it?

I sent you a PM, i can spare a few. Noticed after i sent PM you weren't in the states. Let me know how to send them and i will.

This is my newest unit, running a 510 atomizer with a Texas Instruments 5v regulator. It won't get hot enough to damage the box, but the batteries do get slightly warm with frequent use from being in the enclosed space w/ the regulator so I try not to chong on it nonstop. The regulators are so nice and small, you can fit them in almost anywhere.

Major big thanks to Shreck for the links and advice with the regulator on this one.
