Hey guys/gals,

First off, this is a great place to learn about vaping. Thank you for taking your time and posting so much information here.

I have some questions I would love answered. Here is some information about me and what I am looking for.

Basic Information:
  • Been a smoker for 20 years and I am looking to find a different way to quit or to find a different way to enjoy smoking without the health concerns (yes, I have read the threads on health concerns and if e-smoking is really 'safe' for you. Let's just assume it is healthier than analog smokes)
  • I smoke 1 - 1.5 packs of analog smokes per day
  • I smoke a generic mentol ultra light cigarettes currently (for the past 5 years or so)
Wanted:
  • Minimal 'throat hit', just want a smooth experience without coughing up a lung by changing to ecigs.
  • An ecig I can have fun with. (trying different flavors)
  • A high quality ecig that will last me awhile. I don't mind taking a few minutes a day to maintain the unit or filling cartriges.
What I have done so far:
  • I have purchased a Ruyan Menthal 16ml disposable ecig and when I smoke this and inhale, it puts me on my .... with the coughing of the vapor.
  • Read many, many reviews and watched many videos on ecigs and videos for starters (by Spike).
Goals:
  • Get healthier.
  • Get off analog cigarettes that cost almost 6 bucks a pack
  • Ease the need for nicotine over time and ultimatly be nic free and smoke free.
I tried not to make this a lengthy post, but I wanted to give you fine folks some information so when you post back you understand what I would be wanting from an ecig and make my chances of getting analog free much higher.

Any suggestions, and links to product, would be welcomed.:p

Thank you,

Patrick

Hey Patrick - welcome to the forum...

I smoked the same thing as you - menthol ultra lights - My first week with vaping was an adjustment to be sure. Here's a good list of advise for you from me:

First and formost - Stick to the low nic or no nic liquids. Any higher and I got massive headaches and a sore throat. The vape was too harsh to handle at the higher strengths.
Totally Wicked has a spearmint flavor that's not overly minty, just a very subtle mint taste and next to nothing for throat hit. Very smooth, satisfying vapor. Their vanilla is my other favorite, not overly sweet and very fragrant, but a bit more bite to the vapor.

My first few drags off my ecig are just puffs, where I draw on the device and blow the vapor out. I like to smell the vapor, too, as it's part of the experience.

When I started vaping, when I was ready to inhale, I'd take a draw, partially blow it out of my mouth, then inhale what was left along with some air. This allowed my throat to adjust to the drier vapor. I'd take larger draws in once my throat was acclimated. Acclimation process took me about a week - now I've adjusted and it's vapor without major throat irritation.

I still find I drink lots of water when I vape. The PG in the liquid is a humectant (sp???) and draws moisture out of its surroundings. Others have found that sucking on a hard candy will re-moisturize their mouths.

Equipment:

The classic penstyles are supposed to be more reliable in terms of equipment life, but all the parts of the ecig are considered consumables - it's turning into a hobby with alot of us with the "gotta have 'em all" fever and we end up collecting many. You can see on my signature that I have 3 devices and am awaiting a 4th - I've been vaping for a little over 2 weeks....
The DSE901 is a good, dependable starter ecig, comes in a wide array of colors and finishes (I've heard of pink, green, camo, black, white, and blurple).
Rob at altsmoke has different colors and Parked at diet smokes has the camo.

I love my 801 penstyle - great vapor production, longer cart life, batteries last and last.... but it's big, bulky, and I get looks.

Just remember, your equipment is not set in stone, and anything you really hate can be sold or traded on the classified section of this forum.

Welcome - and Vape On!

Hi Patrick,

I am new too. :)

Your profile is much like mine, and I will be watching this thread to see what other advice you are given. I went with a 901 and then ordered juice. I think what I got is going to be too strong, so am thinking I need to go back and order very low strength to cut it with.

As far as suppliers, I have ordered from 5 different places so far. Not because of issues, but because everyone seems to be out of half of their webstore due to delays in supplies from Asia. I had to poke around various sites to gather up the list I had made from reading here (juices, atoms, batts, USB passthroughs, etc...).

Glad to be on this journey with you. Together, we can all quit these blasted stink sticks.

Be well,

You can also go to Walmart and get some Glycerin USP or (probably) have a Walgreens order some PG for you. That would be cheaper and useful for quite a while as compared to getting lower strength juice. Lots of threads around here about using VG and PG to cut juice.

What products do you have in mind based on the reviews and vids you've explored?

I am looking at the 901 (prior to this post as well) and like the way the 901 platinum or stainless steel ecigs look.

My only concern is if that unit produces 'too much' vapor and I will not enjoy it.

Overall, and in a perfect world, it would be great to order an ecig, light it up, inhale like you did with analog and change over instantly.

Being realistic, I know it will take a little time to convert and adjust to a new way of supporting a very unhealthy habit with something new and much better for you.

I know it's worth the effort, and I am determined to change so I know I will. I would just love little or no 'change time', but I know better.

I will most likely order 2 901's tomorrow with a low nic juice. I like the advice Vicks Vap-oh-Yeah gave me about the ejuice from totally wicked. Those sound right up my alley with little 'getting used to'.

I am just done with the commercial lung darts. So done....

With your comment about minimal throat hit, I'm not sure the generic 901s (RN4075) are right for you. They run hotter therefore hit is sharper. The real DSE901s might be a better choice. Most sellers have the generics, a few have the real DSEs. However you won't know until you get your first one anyway, what your real preference is. Right now you are only imagining what it will be like. ;)

That's what I did. It's possible, but different strokes you know... :)

Cash Premium juice is supposed to be smoother also, but that's according to the owner so, grain of salt.

Good luck!

I know there are many, many vendors listed in the forums, but does anyone know of a great vendor that sells ecigs, juice, extra atomizers and ships fast?

I have visited many sites but most sites look 'homemade' and make a person think they may or may not be all that trustworthy.

If you have had great service with a site that sells the ecigs, please let me know.

Don't take this personally, just as fact. We post such feedback all the time. If you look at the Suppliers sections you will find these messages to and about the vendors, from us, the same people. Plus we say the same thing in newbie threads in this section every day.

I don't think all the vendors are trustworthy, thats why I would use pay pal as a buffer between your credit card and their charge.

Honestly I doubt any of the crappy sites would actually rip off your card info to charge things, that would have to bring down some heat......what I think happens more often is they sell your info to quite a few spammers like *million doolar enharitence* e-mails from india. *and again they probably don't sell your entire credit card number* Just address last 4 digits of card number and bank name....and your full name, items bought that kind of thing.

Hi Patrick, welcome to the forum :)

The DSE901/RN4075 minis are good devices, tried and tested.

If you're looking for a delicious smooth eliquid and can afford to treat yourself with something that costs a bit more then have a look at Freesmoke - www.Freesmoke.eu

You started vaping with a Ruyan Jazz and I've heard that they have a big throat hit so most other combinations of device and eliquid should be a bit smoother.

When I first started vaping I couldn't stand the harshness and wasn't able to vape properly until I had made my own mix of eliquid with glycerine. Now that I'm used to it I can enjoy harshness without my throat becoming irritated.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Just an update:

I ordered 2 901's for me and 2 for my daughter (and her boyfriend) from dietsmokes.com.

I also ordered 3 30ml bottles of ejuice from wicked and I went with the spearmint and vanilla flavors (ordered both low and medium).

Thank you all for your help and the welcome I received on the forums.

I am just waiting for my order to get here, can't wait to get off '....'log smokes...:p

Hi Patrick,

Glad to hear that you are helping others! My 901 came today and I have already had 7 interested coworkers ask for info for friends/family. It feels good!

As a followup, I posted above that we have a similar profile. I seem to be doing well on 18-24mg (24 is a bit strong, but 18 doesn't see to be nailing it). I haven't had an analog since my AltSmoke 901 arrived around lunch. (I am a 2pk/day/import/menthol smoker -- hopefully soon to say "was").

Be well. We can do this. :)

I will keep you posted on my progress.

Since I ordered those extra ecigs for my daughter and her boyfriend, one of my employees has asked if I could order him one and deduct it from his check.

So, I went to smokeytreats and ordered some nic juice and another 901. I paid for 2nd day shipping so will have to see how good they are on processing the order and getting it here.

I have never been pumped about quitting smoking as I have been the past 4 days and to be honest, I think that is easily half the battle for quitting.

I read the review on smokeytreats watermelon nic juice so I made sure I ordered some of that. Prices on the 15ml bottles seem to be some of the best prices at 9.99 for 15ml as opposed to 29.99 for 30 from totallywicked. Have to see, i am so pumped!!:)
