To say the least. I guess it's a good thing that my design business has been slow this summer, because I'd never have had the time to do it otherwise. I've been working on this about 6 hours a day for the last four months. It's almost complete. Just a week or so to go.
It reminds me on how much work we have to do around here, we are adding on a 20x20 livingroom. Seeing as its cooled off now we will be starting this project very soon. Its just been way to hot with 100+ weather.
Yeah, I have a project like that on the horizon as well. We're going to buy the 1/2 lot next door and then expand my currently 1.4k square foot house to 2.4 - 3k square and add a two car garage. Luckily both my brother and my nephew are general contractors, so this should be a little easier than having to work with an unknown quantity.
The best thing about the exterior upgrade is that I can walk around my house now without going "that needs to be fixed... that needs to be painted... we need some paths here... these stairs are falling down...." and so forth. Great stress relief.
You have, I presume, forseen your next appraisal and possible huge jump in property taxes, especially doubling your property size. I don't know, do they reevaluate annually, they seem to here.
No, they don't do reassessments in Oregon that frequently. Besides, even if I buy the lot next door I won't be building on it for a couple of years. I'll be letting the current renters stay there for the time being. But yeah, I fully expect a tax increase once the lots are combined and I build out the addition.
