@smacuser, didn't see your post until after I logged out but now that insomnia seems to be winning... 
I've seen various reasons given from old timers from added work time to other posters dropping out so they did too.
In my case it's medical but I also see a lack of diverse threads. Shinyitis thread wiped out about three other threads dealing with more specific types of vaping, no offense to the shinyitis thread.
Oliver doesn't seem to much care about this site, if at all, any more plus there's almost no engagement from the moderators.
Moderation is a joke these days. Racist, pornographic and hard drug posts are allowed to remain on here even after multiple reports have been made.
After the last software update everything went to hell. How many of your "notifications" are correct?
CASSA, born on ECF, decided ECF wasn't worthy of making posts to anymore. I think they do now but I got very used to ignoring them after their lengthy absence. And considering the ground we're losing, they aren't very effective these days.
vaping has gone mainstream so the "it's-all-about-me" crowd think they know everything. They don't and the video evidence shows up here repeatedly.
There's very few ECF "supporting members" here anymore so now "dry herb" devices are promoted on ECF but you can't talk about them.
I humbly vote drug talk can go elsewhere.
The bottom line answer to your question is an almost complete neglect/abandonment of this site, which literally probably saved my life, by its founder. It's heartbreaking. If this site continues to deteriorate at the rate it has, I won't be a supporting member next year.

I have been waiting (years) for GoT to finish so that I could binge watch this "amazing" show.
I made it about 3 episodes before I began using the "Fast forward" button. Two more (FF) episodes and I skipped to the final minutes of EP 10 to see a dragon. WOW...This is unwatchable.

I been thinking the same thing. Ive only been on here about 2 yrs but its not the same now as then even. I feel like theres nothing more i can learn about vaping here.
Forums in general are a dying breed. FB, instagram and such are gaining in popularity daily.
Another thing is the average non-hobbiest vaper that stops by states they aren't interested in diy or building yet it still gets told that's the only way to get a good vape which simply isn't true. IMO ecf is more geared to older vaper's very set in their ways. Of the forums I use elr seems to be the most supportive and inclusive for all sorts. Honestly I stay for the people I've grown fond of. For myself I've found my personal vape style and simply not much interested in reading or chatting about other styles.

ECF is kinda like an AA meeting.
The new folks are desperate for support and information about HOW they can abstain.
For those people, it is not about the program, it is about the next 5 minutes.
ECF can still help those folks.
Yet the room is full of people with years "clean" and some of us have forgotten about the struggles that brought us here. Grateful or not.

That is one thing straight away to stop any youngies from coming..people do still use it to get an answer to a question but when they have that they often don't come back....In fact I did that in my early days and it wasn't until 2018 that I became active and more engaging
And anyway I can't stand the lingo of the young ...yeah there Bro....i'm killing it
If the majority were like that then I would be off for sure....
I've learn't stuff and there is always new stuff to learn too....learning never stops....it's just the pursuit of learning that suffers.....
I like to think that i've made some friends here too so that's what keeps me coming and I like to see what everyone else is vaping.....you get a better review here than most other places

We use a third party ad company - so if you see those please report them and we can let the company know they need to remove it. It isn't instant so may take a few days. But if we don't know - we can't do anything

I can't 'use it' but since I am the Asst Classified Manager I can "see" some of it...it looks like there are a whopping 25 posts in the landing thread for requests (I even counted the duplicates) that MAYBE got as far as getting the notice to submit $1.00

It is - and it's sad as Forums are such a rich resource for someone trying to not smoke cigarettes.
Something too I have noticed too is that people just don't like the hijacked threads.
People want/need the information they came here looking for - not a bunch of shenanigans.
We all love to have fun and goof off...but it's not right to do so when someone needs help
We have some truly wonderful people here.
Sure a lot of us are now 'older' - but don't you think that our experience makes us perfect to help a younger person ? Drop in products...rebuildables...battery safety ?
