God forbid a business try to increase sales by advertising in more than one place. Do you get angry at businesses that use TV ads AND radio ads AND billboards?

last time I checked the local radio station isnt data mining my emails lol

no problem with using social media to get a wider audience, too many times anymore though companies (not just vape related) are forgetting about anything BUT facebook, it is not the only avenue or resource, why is it the most important anymore?

its getting really sad I have to go to FB to get a response from a vendor who wont answer the email. (i dont use FB but have seen this reported more then once)

Now THAT, in bold, would surely piss me off.

Yeah, for what it's worth, I don't give a rat's furry rump whether a business uses Facebook to promote itself, but the increasingly pervasive assumption not only that I should be on Facebook, but that Facebook's the most natural place to communicate, really does get on my nerves.

So I see both sides of this one. Facebook-required contests and giveaways don't bother me in principle, because a freebie is a freebie; complaining about a freebie (or a potential freebie) on the basis that it isn't given away in the most convenient possible venue would be silly -- but the general trend wherein businesses try to bully their customers into going to Facebook ... Well let's just say that trend got old back when Facebook was new. As I think DC2 put it earlier, if I'm at your home website, I've fulfilled my part of the bargain. Don't send me off on some internet-flavored wild goose chase to get access to all of the information you feel your customers might find useful or interesting.

It's a patronizing waste of time.

Thanks for sharing that... :)

I have also seen a vendor post a link to their website for a Contest entry... only to be directed to Facebook from there!!

Businesses pay to have their pages on FB. That's how FB makes money. Facebook is not free for everything.

I love it!
And if I ever went to a vendor's homepage and found "for news, check our Facebook page" - well, that would be the very last time I would visit their page. Let alone buy anything from them. Leading a customer (who intends to spend his money) on a wild goose chase is - to my mind - extremely arrogant, extremely rude and not good for business. Try this in Germany and you can close your shop. Word travels fast. And German customers do not like arrogant BS.

I agree, entry is not compulsory, if people choose not to use FB then they choose not to participate in both the good and the bad aspects, people need to look at both sides of the coin and make an educated decision and then move on.
Agreed and is it not in all of our best interest's for these suppliers (the good ones) to do well? If the suppliers are finding facebook one avenue that helps them do more business then they will grow and with that will come better prices for us the consumer. As well as new innovations and it will encourage new suppliers to enter the marketplace creating even better pricing and options and so on....
So if Facebook works for advertising, and costs us the consumer nothing then I say we all win.

Original post edited for truth.

Which isn't really true either.

Yes, you can pay to promote/advertise your facebook page, but you don't have to. Adding quality posts/content by yourself can work just as well, especially if you cross promote it with your linkedin/google +/twitter accounts. Content is what drives SEO and you don't need to pay someone to do that.
