Hey everyone, I am working out the logistics and cost analysis for comparing the analogs to the real thing.

I still need to factor in the additional equipment costs for the analogs so I need some estimates on how long things last by time.

1) Atomizers
2) Cartridges
3) batteries

Anything else that I'm not considering (excluding health benefits), let me know.

I think a small sample size will be sufficient just to come up with some basic estimates, I'll post the results and comparisons here. Format the reply like this:

1)
2)
3)

Thanks.

1) haven't lost one yet
2) Not sure, I only use carts on my penstyle which i've had for 2 weeks and have used 3 so far. I plan on washing them out and reusing. I drip exclusively on my 901+m401. My Janty dura died before I could figure this out also.
3)I've had a 901 and penstyle arrive faulty and returned them but never had one work fine and then crap out, except of course my dura, but everyones crapped out.

I know this doesn't help, but most of your post made no sense.

PS. Analogs = tobacco cigs, e-cigs = e-cigs

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if the post didn't make sense.

I was trying to do a small informal sampling for estimates on the useful life of various components to use them in cost per year calculations comparing "analogs" to e-cigs. It would also allow me to better plan my ordering of components and juice over the year so as to not get caught empty handed, not to mention reduce shipping costs over the year.

That's the intent anyway, although perhaps not the most eloquent explanation.

Cost of cigs just went up here in cali -- to 8$ a pack! I know this b/c my better half still smokes about 5 cigs a day. The price has gone up significantly around here.

I've spent over $400 bucks on e-smoking to get started. I have an nPro set (1 atomizer, 2 batts and a charger), several dse901 batts and atomizers (around 4 of each, w/ 2 chargers) and a Janty Dura set with some extra supplies (2 batts, 2 atomizers and 2 chargers.) i also have a generous supply of juice on hand.

I figure this will last me for a few months. I'm Ok with replacing a batt or an atomizer here and there. The initial investment is steep, but it's money well spent in the long run.

Al,
The problem with your survey is that all these 'made in China' products seem to be inherently unreliable! After a week of e-cigs, I've noticed 1 dud battery out of 3 ordered (the other 2 seem ok, but they only last a couple of hours at most and then need good 6-7 of recharging to give sufficient power). Similarly, my original atomiser packed in after a week, but I suspect that was also a dud because the replacement does give a great smoke as long as the battery is nicely charged and they are supposed to last apparently 2-4 weeks..
As for the cart.s, its hard for me to judge so far because I am using different cart.s for different juices. But they generally seem to last a pretty decent amount of time, even without washing.

Well that's part of why I was asking for times on components. I realize there is a high degree of variance inherent in the products, quality control seems to be a major issue.

My background is that I'm a Statistician, but I'm changing careers now to Electrical Engineering. I start my EE program this summer and should be done in about ~5 semesters.

I'm just trying to get a feel for everything since I'm new. I believe that the e-cigarette is going to be a complete revolution, but there's always room for improvement. I think over the next year I will have several opportunities in school to analyze and perhaps improve e-cigarettes with various mods, etc. We'll see!

Thanks for the reply.

Buying liquids are alot cheaper as you can reuse the carts. As far as durability, I havent had anything die on me yet and ordered my first one on 2-5-09. I did have a tempermental atomiser and or USB passthrough though but they work at times. (still using process of ellimunation) I can only give reviews for the penstyle from puresmoker.com as that is the only place I have ordered from. I have spent maybe 260.00 so far on e-cigs. I would have spent that in one month for analogs easily. Cartons ran normally around 35.00 and would go through those in about 3 days or so.

Was buying analogs by the carton but since January I have been buying by the pack. On average a pack here is lasting 3 to 5 days with two cheating with them. Average per pack here in Texas for the cheap generic ones is around 4.00 a pack.

I was a 2pk a day smoker and my husband was 1 pack a day.

Yes my banner is wrong I will change it at some point. Hope this helps some.
