SVD too hot to touch

First post ever, hope this wurks
Smelled something like burning insulation. Went to take a vape and couldn't hold my SVD.
Too Hot!!! Got a rag and unscrewed the battery. Battery wasn't hot but now I am afraid to
put it back in. Has this happened to anyone else?

seems like the wire from the top of the battery connection must be touching the internal case somewhere, any other short would be stopped by the chip ( unless the chip is toasted)

if it has a coupling in the middle like for an extension tube and it was loose that could cause it to heat up.

Okay...got brave and put battery back in. Everything seems ok, all functions work
except no power to atty. Will just dump it and get something else.
Thanks for the help, thought I was losing it for a while.
At least it gave me the guts to post something. Hard to do typing with 2 fingers.

do you have another atty?? if you do try it...see if you get something from it, could have shorted out the non working atty.... and just snug up the atty to the SVD no need to tighten it hard

This is precisely why I no longer own SVDs.

The battery wires in the SVD aren't single wires, they are two wires that are spliced together. They are not soldered or using any form of connector, they are simply twisted together and the wires are held in place with a tiny strip of tape. If that tape is moved or comes loose for any reason then there is the possibility of the bare battery wire contacting the tube which creates a runaway short.

Atty is working so must be the SVD.
I will give it to a friend who does electronics. He fixed an innokin Vv that was turning itself on.
If he fixes it he keeps it so he don't mind. His only problem is he can't see too good like all us old futs.
Got 1 SVD left. Gonna be watching the thing

I think I would have your friend solder those wires for you in the good one so it doesn't happen again. Sounds like a shoddy design that has a simple fix.

Before buying any APV have a look at this forum.

There is a lot of crap out there including the Innokin SVD and Vamo for 3-15W or 3-6V.

yours was like that mine is a single wire... you just got a repaired one that slipped back into circulation...

happens to me all the time with my magneto. actually, its not the mod that's getting hot, but my batteries get smoking hot after about 10 hits. I have to keep changing them which is really starting to be a pain, but I don't like the longer batteries, prefer compact size, feels better in my hand

what ohms are you running???

had a dual microcoil, 24g running at .24ohms. I changed it to a .45ohm build but not as hot as I want it. Battery still gets just as hot so I'll drop it back to my original build again and just deal with the battery changes.

Did you know that the SVD can only go down to .8-.9 ohms minimum? Its a VV/VW unit not a mech... no wonder why you are having issues, probably killed the chip
