Just an update for people interested in this mod.
SM has acknowledged a couple bugs and has suspended production until they are worked out.

What im impressed about is their commitment to making this mod perfect..........

first the shorting out, they have said they will replace any chips that short out no worries. there seems to be a small number of units with a looser then expected seal in the VV section allowing juice and moisture to work its way in and short the chip, so far reports are around 5% returns.

the battery life issues. the battery life isnt actually shorter, the battery is considered empty at a higher voltage then what most mods usually stop at. i ran into this myself recently and went searching the international forums for answers.
So far the general view is it may be a bug in the firmware.
two things seem to help.
The vv section seems to be sensitive to the pressure of the battery and adjusting the endcap tension "just right" helps me some, lots of tweaking though, 1 or 2 mm at a time, just enough to remove any battery play. but not a big deal to me as i only use one model of battery.
the other is simply taking the battery out and reinserting it, i get the low warning, pop the same battery out then in and all seems fine, and can vape for quite a while this way. the other day i got the battery down around 3.3 doing this.

so its not perfect, and is going through some growing pains, but unlike some companies, SM has stepped up to the plate, and is doing their best to make this one of the top VV/VW mods available.

I forgot his name but the head guy has stated he will not be happy until this mod is perfect. which please me greatly as i want another lol.

so for anyone interest in this mod restocking may take a bit longer as they work on the redesigned housing, hang in there.in a world of mass produced cheap stuff this mod really does shine, even with its flaws right now.

I've had mine for over a month now, not a single issue.

Sent from...ah...wait....wut?

I sent mine back for a refund. I fried 2 nivel chips in the space of about 5 days of actual vaping. I was running a Kayfun on it, 1.5 ohm coils. I got my unit, put on my atty, gave an E5 error right away. The electronics section got hot and I smelled burning circuits. After that it just gave E3 errors. Couldn't even read an atty resistance. Always just got E3 errors. Same kayfun works fine on Provari with no errors and on a GG without anything unusual happening. I broke everything down, rebuilt my kayfun just in case and still nothing. E3, E3, E3. Even with a non-kayfun, just a dripping atty, a 510 carto, just E3.

I contacted the vendor and they sent me a new nivel chip to put in it, put it in (which was super easy) and it worked great. This was just last wednesday. I used it all weekend and the following week pretty much as my only device. Again, with a kayfun 3.1 at 1.5 ohm. On Wednesday the next week, I refilled my kayfun when it was still on the unit. Fire it up. Boom, got an E5 error. Device gets hot, smell burning and I'm back to nothing but E3 errors. Just like last time. Tested same Kayfun on the provari and GG, no problems. It works fine.

Don't know what the problem was and I don't know what I may have done to kill it. Refilling a kayfun and the unit fries? Don't feel like waiting for another week for a 2nd replacement chip to ship from Germany, so I contacted the seller and returned it.

I may be an outlier, but I don't have the patience for nonsense like this. The same Kayfun always works on everything I put it on. Semovar just burns out. Why is there no type of protection on the unit to keep it from going into a meltdown?

At least now I can get my money back and find something new to buy, but my experience has been nothing but a headache.

I read your experience before I bought my Semovar and was really hopeful that your experience was just a freak thing... it's not. I'm having instances of wacked out voltage under load readings, where one time I'll get 4.0 at a battery charged to 4.1 which is great... then i read again and it'll be 3.3 at the same 4.1 charge. That can be a HUGE annoyance when it starts causing E5's on a battery that still has 3.8-3.9 volts and is pretty outrageous. This didn't happen out of the box... in fact, I was amazed the first few days. Then it started. Then, the other morning I used it before I took a shower and it seemed to be working fine. 30 minutes later, the E3's started up with my Kayfun. I switched to a carto and the same thing. I tried my Kayfun Mini and still the same thing. Tried taking out the battery and putting it back in and didn't help. Finally, halfway through the day, after a day of outright stress and borderline depression over worrying about what to do as far as contacting the retailer, I decided to try switching to voltage mode in the offline menu, as I had been using power mode when I was having the E3. I dropped the voltage down to like 3.5, turned to online menu, and poof- it worked.

Other issues- my button is EXTREMELY unreliable and touchy.. I notice my device cutting in and out intermittently while holding down the button sometimes... I'm sure it's the button sometimes because I've also experienced the issue when accessing the menu... other times I fear it may be a chip issue.
One thing to note on the button issue- After watching Navy-Lifeguard's maintenance video and carefully inspecting his chip and comparing it to mine, I noticed that while they are labeled the same chip number, the some of the components are different, including the button (mine is smaller). I'm not sure which is the newer design, but I'm kind of wondering if one is an updated version where these issues were fixed.

I was in love... I even made a post a few days ago about how reliable and predictable the Semovar was... now I can't say that any more, and really can't trust mine to leave the house with me where I can count on it. I have absolutely babied this thing to the max, so misuse/abuse is out of the equation.. there's a problem somewhere.

One thing to add though: This thing is worth it due to the obvious quality that has gone in to it, and as long as I can count on Svoemesto to be in it for the long haul so I know there's support, I'll put my trust in this device. Emailing the retailer tomorrow and ready to see what they can tell me the news is on this suspended production or replacement chip. I hope to be reporting back with good news.

I've been eyeballing the add to cart on cloud 9 all day... I'm Canada though and I'm worried about the BS exchanging them if there is a problem.

I've heard earlier in the thread that someone got a new chip sent to them... was that cloud 9 who supplied that, he didn't say, I wouldn't mind it if there was a problem and they sent me a new board rather than returning the item (shipping costs) and waiting for a new one (more shipping wait times)

so undecided right now..... want it so bad, but heard so many bad things on many forums.

Thrasher- where did you read that (above) that the bad ones are all pulled from stock?

Buy from cloud 9, you won't be disappointed. That's where I bought mine. They will bend over backwards if there's a problem.

E-mail Cloud 9 to ask them their opinion on the matter. As a retailer he could have handled it many ways including denial.... I think they handled it well, and although they are a retailer and trying to get sales, the e-mail comes across pretty genuine as far as I'm concerned... or maybe I'm just a sucker. Either way I think I'm going to purchase one from them in the next week or so.

My e-mail to them:
Hello,
I'm just wondering if there has been any progress made with the problems with these devices, or if you can test a device before shipping international. I would like to order one to Canada, I'm a little weary if there is a problem as shipping back and forth from here could get expensive.

Their response:
I can say with all honesty they have made huge improvements since that first batch. They isolated the issue with the circuit boards and fixed it. I have seen the failure rate drop well below the norm for devices of this sort. And don’t worry about the shipping costs, we cover that part if need be. In some cases we can even just send out the replacement board and you can swap it out quite easily yourself since there are no wires or solder inside the switch housing, it all comes apart very easily.

For whatever reason this e-mail (however foolish on my part) and the recommendation of a member or two have made me confident enough to purchase them from across the pond from cloud9...

I'll let you know what I think of it when it comes in.

I cant remember the forum at this time anymore but it was someone in contact with the top guy at SM and they stated they want everyone to feel confident SM is standing behind the product and even 5% failure is 5% too high of a rate for them, they said they want this to be the best mod you can get and will pull all stock at this (that) time to fix any flaws and redesign the problematic area before re releasing it to the public.

shortly after that everyone posted waiting on stock and even SM direct pulled them off the site.

as for cloud9 I have been in contact on other stuff awesome folks to deal with. many reviewers and customers give them a huge thumbs up for customer service and just plain friendliness.

If anyone is interested cloud9 has their own forum and the semovar issues were discussed at length with them stating that cloud9 will stand behind the product should any problems arise. no hassles no fuss if its bad send it back.

mine is in perfect working order and its around 6 months now. got it at C9 myself.
After reading about the commitment from SM and the quality of their products im def a SM fan

Mine is a June Cloud 9 and is also in perfect working order. The previous owner told me that C9 had replaced the electronics when the updated version came out, I don't know if he had a problem or just did it to be safe but he said C9 were excellent to deal with.
