I'm having a problem with my kayfun Lite Plus. I've been using cotton balls as my wick, and it starts leaking out of the airflow hole. So I stopped using cotton. My understanding is that you don't want to use too much cotton, or it will cause this issue in the KFL+.

Also, another one of my KFL+ started leaking through the bottom airhole intake using 2.5mm silica wick. GrimGreen on youtube said to make sure not to block the side channels where the liquid flows upwards with material used for the wick. I know i'm not using too much silica wick. I follow Vaperev.coms video on building the coil/wick setup.

Can anyone help?

I had several problems with mine flooding as well - I use a micro coil with cotton wick that just barely touches the bottom of the juice well and in no way covers the juice channel. I raised the coils a bit - probably 1/8" off the deck and presto, all my flooding issues are gone. I think the cotton touching the coil deck was causing the wicks to put juice directly onto the deck, resulting in juice flowing down the air hole and the flooding and gurgling.

The point of all of this - if your wick is touching the coil deck, you're probably gonna put juice down the air hole and have some gurgling. When you wrap your coil and put your wick in, do it in such a manner that you don't have wick touching the coil deck.

I have had an opposite effect with the juice channels

Who ever said you dont cover the juice wells is wrong..... IMHO

It will leak if you DONT cover the juice well holes.

Keep enough cotton on the coils to not only reach the juice well channels, but enough to lay down in front of the juice well channels.

You just dont pack the cotton hard in front of the jucie channels.

Yes, GrimmGreen mentioned it will also short if the coil touches the bottom deck. Now I need to make sure my silica/cotton wick isn't touching either. I heat up the coil to the appropriate voltage to make it glow red, which makes it more responsive to positioning, then lift the coil off the deck. Thanks for the advice.

sounds like you have an air leak somewhere did you pinch or lose an oring somehow? i dont use cotton but the only time i seen flooding is when there isnt enough wick or the coil is too high

Hrmm... I'll have to check when it happens again. I notice the orings are not in the place they should be when I assemble the KFL+. Maybe that's the problem, but I do tighten them all the way. I figured the tightening would put the orings into their proper position when I screw them down.

I do keep my coil pretty high off the bottom deck to keep from shorting out. I took one KFL+ apart after taking the liquid out. Reassembled it, and there's no flooding out the airhole. Very strange.

When the KFL+ does flood, alot of liquid comes out. I'm speculating the inner chamber is filling up with too much fluid, and going down the airhole. Why this is the case, I do not know yet. I know if I take the top off the KFL, it will flood the same way. I think by filling from the bottom, it creates a vacuum. If this vacuum is lost some how, flood city. I must be getting an air leak somehow. I'll look down at my hand and on my Provari, and it'll be covered with liquid.

Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. Do you get any gargling when you take draw before the leak?

Check it to see if you're getting a good seal. Just cover the air hole and apply a lot of suction. You shouldn't get any air coming in, or at least very hard to get a little air in. (Take the trip tip out and test from the top piece).

I finally learned how to properly setup a cotton ball wick (organic cotton balls) on my 6 KFL+, thanks to PBusardo and a PM from Thunderball above. Many thanks to both. I have to create the micro coil around a small screwdriver, normally used for glasses, then mount it correctly, heat up the coils till they glow, then immediately press them together using a pair of pliers. I'm using 32 gauge Kanthal wire. This creates a tight coil and a nice even glow that begins from the center of the micro coil. The cotton ball passes through nicely. Trim the edges of the cotton wick to the outside of the KFL+ base, insert the inner core with the cotton positioned upwards. Put some nic liquid on the cotton to make it sink down into the side channels. I have enough cotton to fill both the side channels, but not too much that packs it down too tightly. I am covering the liquid channels that flow upwards to the inner tank. Therefore, the only liquid that will enter the chamber is when it is soaked in by the cotton, to the coil.

I've used this method to build the wick/coil on all six of my KFL+, and not one of them has had dry hits, leaks, or flooding.

I also made sure that the wick/coil is not touching the base/deck, so no liquid is draining into the airhole.

Hello Beretta,
Can you tell me how many wraps you are using on your coils? I am using 32 gauge as well and cant seem to get below 2.3 ohms.
I'm using a 5/64 drill bit as well. I love the build as long as i use in on my vv device at 11 wats but looking at using it on a mechanical and need it to be around 1.5.. Thanks for your time!!
