Ok, so here it goes:

I started smoking back in 2003 when I was stationed in Korea to keep from dipping. It worked but then I was faced with now a smoking habit! LOL! I have been telling myself I was just going to finally give it up and that was years ago. Finally got ticked off at all the money I spend smoking and now that I am medically retired, my health means so much more to me than it used to. I quit drinking back in July (thank the Lord!) and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Smoking, on the other hand, is kicking my ....!

So my Fiancé and I picked up a couples E-Cig kit from Green Smoke. We got it Monday and it has been awesome! Now that it's Thursday night I wanted to bounce a few questions and problems we have been having off your heads. She is still smoking a couple of cigarettes a day. She says that her e-cig just doesn't do it for her. We both do work with our hands and used to "free hand" smoke. With the e-cig, free handing isn't an option since the battery is pretty heavy.

I guess my questions are: can we find something that will help with the cravings of analogs? Portability, durability, and longevity are our major problems dealing with all of this. If anyone has any good ideas to help with this, please let us know. I know this won't be an easy thing to kick and we are only a few days into this adventure.

Thank you all for your help and time!

Hi and welcome!

I too got a Green Smoke kit, which I sent back as soon as I discovered an eGo. While some people are happy with "cig-a-like" devices, there are inherent problems that often make it difficult for people to make the transition to vaping. The battery doesn't last long; the choices of flavors (like with Green Smoke) are limited; the types of devices you can use on top are limited; but one of the biggest drawbacks is that they are too close to cigarettes. vaping is not smoking. Instead of focusing on quitting smoking, think of it as finding something you like better than smoking.

When you get a good device that makes nifty plumes of vapor, you will surprised how quickly you forget to smoke. :)

Since there are two of you, you will each need two batteries, but if you are diligent, you could get away with one charger. This is the most bang for your back beginner kit: http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

Depending on your budget, you could add two additional Twists and/or Spinners, or you could get smaller regulated batteries for when you go out. I strongly recommend getting the name brands: Joyetech Twist/Vision Spinner for your primary devices, since people seem to have less problems with them than the generics.

While your battery, the power source, is important, it's the devices you screw and top and the juices you use that has the most significant affect on your vaping experience. I always recommend that new vapers get good batteries, but spend most of the budget on different "Juice Delivery Systems" (the thingys on top) and juice samples, since it can take quite a bit of experimentation to find out what you like.

Congrats on moving away from the smokes and welcome :) I haven't personally used a Green Smoke, but they have a very good reputation. If you are looking to stay about the same size with a cig-a-like, from what I can tell, you chose a good one. Question, what percentage of nicotine came with your kit? If you like the brand, the feel, and the flavor of what you have, Green Smoke sells up to 2.4% and that might take the edge off if it was a lower percentage.

I personally couldn't use any of the cig-a-likes that I tried because they simply didn't hit my throat right and coming from 2PAD I needed more than the ones I tried. There are a lot of options out there, but everything starts getting bigger. If you can handle the size difference, you might want to try something like an ego or an ego twist. That will give you more vapor and in general more flavor (my opinion and my experience). The problem I have seen with these types of batteries is they can on occasion go out relatively quickly (1 to 3 months, but many have used them for well over a year). Once you go up from there, you are looking at some stuff that isn't small and it really depends on what you are comfortable with. In general, when you move up to the bigger stuff (ego twists included) you start getting options tune the voltage/wattage to your particular taste and need. For me, this was a huge help and was what I needed to stop smoking completely.

Also, don't be worried about smoking a few analogs along the way. If you all are smoking less, that's a huge improvement. I was able to quit analogs relatively quickly, but others have taken time to quit them. Find what equipment you think will work for you and follow what your body tells you to do.

With all of that said, finding the right juice and the right battery may take a bit of time. I would really try to find a local vaping store that has some equipment you can try out and physically feel to see if the bigger equipment will work for you. Most of the local stores in my area will let you try out the equipment and taste the flavors.

Hope this helps and hope I wasn't rambling too much, lol, I usually head to bed a little earlier than this :)

Welcome again :)

I'm sorry I have to disagree about Green Smoke. If a cig-a-like is what you decide on, there are ones on the market that are of better quality and offer more options. A major drawback with Green Smoke is that it uses uncommon (more like obscure) threading and if you want to use any other device on top you will have to hunt around for an adaptor. The most common threading for e-cigs is 510 with 808 coming in second. Both of these threads will allow to to use small clearos on cig-a-likes, so you can use your own juice flavors and not be stuck with Green Smoke cartridges (which are way over priced).

These little guys come in 510 and 808, and looked sleek on a cig-a-like: Vision Nano

Thank you both. The Green Smoke seems to be of good quality (heard bad things about their old distro though). What I do like about it is that I can switch to a regular "cigarette flavor" during the day and a different flavor at night. The carts don't leak and store nice in the case for easy access. I would like to find a "pen style" or something along the lines for me with the same options. I saw the E Go W and it looks pretty neat, but can't seem to find out if I can switch carts without it leaking while storing, etc.

The crappy thing is I don't know what is quality. I know that probably 99% of this stuff is made in China so YMMV from user to user.

There is a Vape Shop 15 miles in the next town that I am going to go hit up tomorrow when she gets off work. If we can find something that we like there I will probably buy or order one (if I can get a good one online for a better price). Once all that happens, I can send the GS products back for our 30 day refund. Tons of different flavors would be awesome.

Concerning your cravings of analogs, for me that still hasn't gone away, & I'll still light one on occasion. The good news is that I've found I go to them very seldom anymore, & the last one I had I tossed after two puffs & grabbed my vape. For me, the cigalikes didn't curb my usage of analogs, it's when I switched to the ego type & found some tasty liquids that I really saw the light.

Hi and welcome! I figured I'd pipe in because there sounds like a lot of similarities between you & I.

I'm new as well, had my last analog on 11/09, and just switched from Green Smoke to vaping 2 weeks ago. My wife switched as well about a week after I did but she still had 2-3 cigs a day, especially that first one of the day. The key for her was the GS Menthol, which she said was really close to her Newports. Like you, I was real curious and a little confused about vaping so I decided that I would educate myself by watching vids online and reading here.

Now I can't say anything bad about Green Smoke because they worked for me and their service was great. But what happened was that I really missed the throat hit and I knew these "vapers" were getting the real deal. I also was real curious about the flavors from the vids & posts here. So the Mrs & I went to a local B&M an bought a starter kit each. Now I knew I could get a better deal online but the education I got from the shop owner (a vape enthusiast himself) on the different options of starter kits was invaluable in my opinion.

We wound up buying INNOKIN ITASTE VV/VW 3.0 batteries to use with ICLEAR16/ICLEAR 30's. Two weeks later neither the wife or I have touched a green Smoke ( I have about 7 unopened packs of carto's still) & my wife has completely stopped her 2-3 analogs a day

So I say take your time, educate yourself a little, and take the risk on a cheap starter kit. Your in a great position now because if you don't care for it you still have Green Smoke!

I was in a similar situation and looked to vaping to kick the "dirty habit". I was very reluctant and skeptical but it has been a week today since I started vaping, and I have not had one cigarette! This is coming from someone who has smoked at least a pack a day for over 13 years. I have tried every other way possible to quit and have been unsuccessful every time. This is the only way that has worked for me and this is the longest I have gone without a cigarette in many many years!!!

You may find my initial thread which can be found here, helpful as it is full of a ton of information that was extremely useful for me. I decided on an iTaste VV V3 and got away from something that was similar to a cigarette and I haven't look back. Good luck!

Ya when I first started the cig a likes worked for me. I got into the other stuff as hubby was a big smoker and still drifts back to it. What surprised me when I got into different set ups was just how good the flavor was. So instead of something I had to do, or I would have a nic fit break down it became something I enjoyed doing.

Welcome to the forum! Lots of good insight here and the folks are pretty groovy.

"Cig-a-likes"

Yet another term I've never heard before. I've not tried the Green Smoke products, but my gateway to vaping was the Vuse products which I believe are still in limited release across in some states in the US. They're made by one of the big tobacco companies (can't remember which), and while I'd never use one again (costly, poor battery quality, etc), I'm thankful they led me to where I am today.

I still had analogue cravings when I was using the Vuse, but they immediately and permanently went away as soon as I was vaping like a big boy. Can't say if it'll have the same affect for you, but the costs savings alone (as long as you don't go mod crazy initially) are enough to warrant it, IMO.

Ok! Thank you all for your input and help!! We went to the Vape Shop and after 2.5 hours walked out with two Ego Twists, some tanks, cases, and 7 flavors! Excited doesn't even come close to how we felt after we left!!! The guy didn't try to sell us a bunch of stuff that we didn't want, he listened to our desires and showed us different options (with the good and bad of each option). I was nervous that she would be turned off to Vape because it didn't look like a "cigarette". Shoot by the end of the time at the store she was running all over the place looking for different pieces to outfit hers. Looks like we have finally jumped off and we can call ourselves Vapers!!!! This is so much cooler than smoking! Why didn't we start this about 20 years ago?!

Anyway, I will probably lose another nights sleep because I am so excited seeing what all I can learn!

Yep- We're hooked!

PS:

Calling Green Smoke to return our purchase. I feel bad, but hey, it's their money back guarantee.

I sent my kit back after about a week and a half. I might still be using Green Smoke if they hadn't screwed up my order. I decided I wanted to get an e-cig to play with. I thought it was a gimmick, but I like gadgets. I looked online for e-cig reviews and Green Smoke got high marks, so I ordered a kit. I was a menthol smoker, but they sent me regular tobacco by mistake. I was out of cigs and figured the e-cig would hold me over until I could get to the store.

When I tried it there was something about the tobacco flavor that made me think of coconut. Green Smoke doesn't have a coconut flavor, but I thought maybe another company might make one. Google, Google Google... LOL! I must have used different search terms than I had before, since the world of vaping opened up to me! I watched videos, bought an eGo and the rest is history. :)

And now I UNDERSTAND what all of you guys are raving about! LOL! We were driving back home and we were looking at each other laughing about how stupid we were for not making this switch years ago. Nice not having guilt hanging over your head like when you would smoke too many cigarettes.

Ya the right set up can make or break ya. I need toys and taste, hubby needs flavor and simple. Glad ya found something that hits the spot and you had a good store to go to.
