Although I'm not entirely convinced that eliquid is a "safe" thing to be doing, per-say, I do feel that it is a MUCH safer alternative to tobacco. It's been a month and a half since I taking the leap after 15 years of being a smoker, I've noticed more than a few things since making the switch:
1. I can "smell" cigarettes. Everywhere. Ever since I kicked the habit, my car miraculously started smelling like an ash-tray, and now when I'm at the grocery store, it's soooo easy to spot who smokes and who doesn't based on smell. "You mean, I used to walk around smelling like THAT!?! Yowza!"
2. I don't freak out when I know I'll be without a vape for a few hours. While addicted to tobacco, the sheer thought of being without one for a few hours would cause much anxiety and make me start to geek out. I find myself reaching for nicotine on a less frequent basis, which brings me to my next point,,,
3. Nicotine gets a bad rap. I'm not saying that nicotine is good for you or anything, far from it, but without all of the other junk associated with tobacco, (i.e. tar, carbon monoxide, preservatives, etc), nicotine by itself seems much more subtle of a substance than I previously thought. Perhaps along the lines of caffeine, but more addictive? I'd say so.
4. Lungs / Throat / Lung Function: I haven't been exercising much lately so I don't have a whole lot to report on that, but I've noticed a HUGE difference in a lack of lung and throat congestion. I mean, I sing, and I CAN HIT A CLEAR NOTE AT ANY TIME OF DAY PERIOD which I've never been able to do being a smoker, and that alone for me is worth the price of admission.
5. Cost. Yeah, I've blown through a few hundred bucks trying to find out what works for me, starting with disposable cartridges, moving up to an Ego Twist VV with tanks & dripping attys and finally on to my first MOD, (entire Vamo starter kit for only 40 BUCKS from Ocean Vapor, couldn't pass that up, eagerly waiting my shipment), and my first rebuildable atty, (Phoenix), and Genesis tank, both using stainless steel mesh, (burning up cotton & silica? Yuck!). Alas, after then initial investment, my monthly total including trying various juices throughout the month shouldn't exceed around $30, compared to dropping around $120 to die a slow death on combustible analogs, which again brings me to my next point,,,
6. New Lease On Life. I suddenly find myself feeling surrounded with a new sense of optimism and peace regarding the future. Words simply cannot describe how humbly grateful and thankful I am to know that, 20 years from now, I will be battling an addiction to tobacco, which also gets me very excited to be,,,
7. Spreading The News. I have single-handily inspired 3 friends and countless others to make the switch as well, and THAT is nothing short of PHENOMENAL! To know that you have the opportunity to drastically alter and change someone else's health and well-being is nothing short of incredible, lead-alone the folks they tell, who tell their friends, who tell their friends and so on and so on. My only apprehension with being a part of this awesome vapor community, (my first post, btw), is that I fear there will start to sprout up the same "purist", "elitist" snobbery and lack of patience with newbies that most sub-cultures tend to develop. I'm very happy to report that, after spending a lot of time lurking on the ECF, I've seen nothing but kindness, acceptance and encouragement from more seasoned posters in the vaping community, and
THAT
IS
WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
cool.
I encourage you to do yourself, and the world a favor: The next time you order from your favorite supplier, drop $0.50 on a pack of disposable plastic drop covers and keep a few in your jacket pocket for when you go out. I have made TONS of new friends recently just from being eager to share when a smoker approaches me about my device, and is thinking of making the switch. You'll be their superhero.
Thank you for taking the time to read my first post, I wish all of you a lifetime of very happy vaping.
