Some posts have stated a significant life changing event (i.e Death in family, lost job etc) while trying to answer if there is a correlation between weight gain and e-cigs. Sorry to hear about the difficulties and happy to see that you have not reached for the analog crutch! I guess I am lucky since starting vaping and quitting analogs 90 days ago I have not had any out of the ordinary stress factors.

In that 90 days my weight has stayed constant. No food cravings, taste is better and so is breathing

I've been trying to get to the next weight class for a year now (10 more lbs) and the most I've gained was 6. In the few months I've been vaping I managed to hit my goal :) But maybe for me its related to a drastic reduction in stress. I've always hated that I loved smoking and didn't have a desire to quit. Now I am happy and in a good place. Except for the stress of a dead atty, vaping has done wonders for me, mentally and physically.

yep exactly-just like you, I LOVED SMOKING and NEVER WANTED TO QUIT! i loved smoking and the nicotine kept my BMR up so i didnt gain weight and burned more calories, but now, with vaping...i can have the best of both worlds.

I'm not a doctor, or a scientist, or whatever, so although I might get a few details mixed up, the basic premise is the same.

Nicotine causes an increase of dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is responsible for activating the reward pathways, which is why we find smoking so pleasurable even though we know it might kill us. That increase is also why people tend to smoke more when doing things like gambling, which also causes an increase in dopamine and is the reason people get addicted gambling.

Anyway, eating also causes production of dopamine, which is why smokers tend to eat so much when they quit smoking, because it really does help the cravings, or at least that part of them. Eating more is why people gain weight of course. As long as you keep your nicotine intake, there should not be any weight gain. For those that have gained weight, there are either other contributing factors, or the act of vaping has cut their nicotine intake enough that they are having cravings and eating more to deal with them. When people say that smoking decreases the appetite, what they really mean is that the nicotine we get from smoking decreases the desire to over eat.

So this long answer is to say the short answer: If you keep your nicotine intake, you should not gain weight.

hmmm. But I didn't change my calorie intake. And I eat 6 times a day, then and now. The only thing that changed was the lack of carcinogents (sp) I no longer take in. (and the lack of worrying about smoking) Nicotine... the same. or close. or heck even more now?

That all makes a lot of sense. Especially since from the get I vaped a medium to low nicotine juice. I think I may have gone overboard on reducing it too much in the beginning. Something to think about for the newbies...and me, too, if I continue to gain. Good info, thanks.
