Switching to Juul from Black N Milds

Hi. I have been smoking Black N Milds for 3-4 years. My friend told me that vaping is "better" for you so I bought the juul yesterday and the 3mg pods. So I tried it. Absolutely nothing. No feeling at all. I was hoping to replace Black N Milds for this, a "healthier" alternative but I felt no kick, no high, nothing at all from the juul. I don't want to have to go through a whole pod to get that feeling. Am I doing something wrong? Any recommendations? Should I have done some more research before buying the Juul? I mean, it seems to have waaaaay less nicotine than Blacks so I'm like maybe this was a waste. Anybody have any similar experience?

For me, coming out of the gate from smoking required:

High PG (vs VG) juice
High(ish) nic (18-24mg, no salts which didn't exist back then).

3% in Juul is equal to what we would have called "30mg" back then. I think they might also use nic salts though, which lowers the throat hit.

That combo gave me the throat-hit and slight "punch" that I needed. I don't know if ANY of this is of any value, but I thought it was worth sharing, just in case...

They talk about a nic high where you get a little dizzy and lightheaded and so forth. Generally that means you got too much nic. I think teens who vape are often looking for a nic high.

If you're vaping to get off smoking then what you should be looking for is getting enough nic to take away the urge to smoke, rather than a nic high.

I remember having that happen to me when I tried some 32mg/ml juice a few months after I started vaping. It scared the crap out me. I threw out the rest of that bottle of juice and never tried it again.

I can't imagine trying that now.

When you smoked the black and milds, I'm assuming you were inhaling. Vaping is not the same as smoking. 3 to 4 yrs isn't a long time and nicotine would be easier to give up completely than for someone who smoked for 30 or 40 years. If you're disappointed that vaping doesn't get you "high", you're vaping for the wrong reason. But you do you, doesn't make a difference to me what you do.

With any vaping device it's the vapor production and the Nicotine level of the liquid used that are the factors you have to consider, so it seems as they're off with the Juul for you @curlygirl18.

So you're options are either go for a higher strength pod with the Juul, or get another kind of vape mod that's refillable and you can use any liquid with at any strength and have a choice of coils available as well so you can tailor it to your needs then.

Quite a few years ago while I was visiting my mother I happened to run into a friend of a friend who was halfway thru making the switch. I inquired about the device he had, as I didn't recognize it. He said it was a Juul. I told him that 5% was the same as 50 mg/ml, because he wasn't aware of that. I then told him that my nic level was 25 mg/ml, or 2.5%. I also gave him a brief introduction to freebase nic and salt nic and their differences and effects. He said, "Oh that's probably why I get a little buzz in the morning from this."

I find that 5% Experience is different from 3.5% Experience which is different from 2.5% Experience.

The higher the nic content the more it affects me. Example 1 large draw of a .50 doesn't equal 2 large draws of .25.
Scientifically it doesn't make sense, but that's how it is for me.

BTW I've ended up at around 3.2% as my sweet spot.

I smoked for 45 years, dual used vape and cigarettes for a couple of years, finally switching to just vape using Juul 5%. It took awhile, even with the inspiration of having been diagnosed with emphysema, but once I was over the hump, it took. I'm in my sixth year cigarette free and I do credit Juul for making it happen. The improvement to my health since completely stopping cigarettes has been dramatic. Don't wait till your lungs are shot, keep trying. The first few months were tough, but it did finally reach a tipping point where I simply lost the desire to smoke and vape became my new normal. Try the 5%. Juul is a very low powered device and the higher nic version did work best for me. I tried the 3% early one and had the same impression your having.

That’s not how this works. I think you misunderstand. Vaping isn’t about getting a kick or a high. If that’s the feeling you want, stick to Black & milds.
