SX Mini Warrenty Repair

Hello,

Has anyone sent their Mini to Yihi for a warranty repair?

My USB no longer charges and my resistance jumps every time I press the button. After several emails back and forth with Angelica at YiHi, she asks me if it okay if I send it to a "friend" in Florida who has worked on Mini's in the past. She also stated that he might charge a modest fee for his services.

It feels shady to me. So I wanted to see if anyone on ECF had any experience with this.

Thanks,

Scott

that does sound a little shaddy -- ask for a shipping address and look it up on google to see if its a business.

sometimes things are lost in translation... maybe business partner got translated to friend by the translator?

but yeah if you look it up and its a apartment building or a house in the burbs thats no good ;)

Wow, even if the "friend" is legitimately a qualified repair facility for the SXMini there is no way you should be asked to pay even a "modest fee". Shipping to the facility is one thing, but that makes me very hesitant about getting another SX device. Did you order it from an authorized seller?

I bought it from a brick and mortar in town. I'm never got their authentication to work on their website, but in an earlier email I provided them the serial number. Since she didn't say otherwise, I can only assume it is authentic.

I though the same thing. Friend was a lost in translation moment and she meant business partner or authorized repair place. I hope that is the case. It is the best device I have owned to date.

I have asked her for the address and phone number and why I would be asked to pay a fee for warranty work. I will at least Google the address and probably call the phone number.

You would think with a high end expensive mod like there Mini, you would get better after sale service! That totally disappointing :(

Well I will pass judgement after it is resolved. I will give the benefit of the doubt at this point due to the immense language barrier and only communicating via email. They have answered each email in a timely manner so far.

Well, I got a reply from YiHi and they want me to send it to Varitube in Florida for repair. Seems more legit now. I'm going to email them in the morning. They won't be charging me for the chip they are going to replace, but they said I would have to pay for labor.

Did they tell you why you must pay for labor? That seems rather ridiculous to me.

I agree warranty should cover parts and labor. A big company like Yihi should have a warranty depot all ready setup
Thats just Lame on there part If your going to sell a Product. You should at least stand behind it IMO

The guy(Onedesign1) that owns and runs Varitube is a great guy to do business with and he has a thread in the Suppliers Section of this forum.

Let us know how things go with getting your SXmini repaired. Even if you have to pay for labor, it will still be cheaper and quicker than having to ship your mod to China.

varitube is safe -- i would guess the "Modest fee" is likely just s/h or to charge you if it looks like you twisted the 510 connection which they have documented as a violation of the warranty -- let us know how it goes!

That would be great if it was just S/H. I haven't touched the 510 connection.

I'm now waiting for verification from Varitube.

Well as soon as I hit send on that post, I got a response from Perry at Varitube.

He is charging me $25.00 which includes return shipping. That isn't too bad in my book. Unfortunately, I have to wait for a chip to be shipped from China. They only sell SX350 Mini chips without the buttons for Mod makers.

Hopefully the boat goes fast.

Resistance jump sounds like the same problem as many Sigelei and IPV are having with the super crappy 510 connector. There are countless posts for ohm, resistance, voltage jumping on these devices. Judging by your problem I am starting to think every one of these Yihi chipped devices is made in the same factory. Aside from the USB problem if it were me that $25 would go towards a better 510 connector. Get it swapped and as soon as replacement arrives bring it to a local shop who can mod it with better quality parts. Otherwise replacing crap with crap will just end up costing you more than the mod itself.

Varitube supplies a very good 510 connector of their own design and may be willing to install one of them when they replace the board for wildebeest.
