I'm beginning to panic. Since I started vaping, I've been experiencing a variety of symptoms that just won't go away. They're bothering me so badly that I'm smoking more real cigarettes now, and I -don't- want to do that.

1) Heartburn - any menthol, even very low amounts, is giving me severe heartburn. Menthol cigs didn't do that to me.

2) Lump in throat - any type of liquid, menthol or not, makes me feel like I have this lump in my throat that results in constant swallowing. I drink tons of water and it doesn't help.

3) Severe stomach gas - no, I'm not talking about gas that makes you toot! Burping gas that often gets stuck and makes me nausiated. The type of liquid doesn't matter - menthol or not. I've tried different methods of inhaling (attempting to avoid getting air into my stomach while drawling and inhaling), all to no avail.

I've gone from using higher percentages of PG to higher percentages of VG. I can seem to tolerate higher percentages of VG more so than PG - the taste is 100% better. PG has a very bad taste to me.

Honestly, I'm beginning to freak out a bit. I had hoped that vaping would help me quit the evil cigs, but I'm smoking more and more with each passing day, because of these symptoms.

Help, pretty pretty please?

I am really spotty that you are having such a hard time.

I haven't tried any menthol so I'm not sure about the effects of that but I would think that if the menthol is strong it could cause heart burn.

I have had that lump in my throat. It seems to happen when I use e-juice that is thicker or dark. I went away though and I have t had problems.

I have also had the stomach full of air feeling. I noticed it more with my Phoenix clearo's then my tanks. Maybe try a different delivery system.

It is possible that you have PG sensitivity. Some people do and they vape 100% VG.

I hope you can stick with it good luck :)

1) Some people have reactions to certain flavorings, even different suppliers brand of the same flavor. If you just have to have a menthol flavor try a natural mint of some sort.
There are vendors that offer all natural / organic flavored juices. Of course your problems may be caused by poor quality juice to begin with.

2 & 3) Could be you're getting juice in your mouth and swallowing it irritating your throat stomach & gastrointestinal system.
Some folks are sensitive to pg but pg by itself shouldn't have any noticeable flavor other than slightly sweet. Offensive tastes are usually either your juice delivery device or the juice itself.
You may have a bunch of bad juice or a delivery device that isnt atomizing the juice properly or is just flat fubar.

Going from smoking to vaping your system goes through quite a radical change, all sorts of side effects can happen. Most of those are linked to your body and brain screaming for the 3999 known toxins & carcinogens other than the nicotine that it is used to.
People that quit smoking by means other than vaping complain about almost identical side effects, for some folks the side effects are worse than for others.
Some folks experience a hypersensitivity to things they normally wouldn't be sensitive to when they stop smoking and or transition from smoking to vaping, continuing to smoke while vaping can compound those effects.

PG gets a bad rap, most folks introduce more pg into their system in a day by absorption or ingesting things that they dont even know contain pg than vaping 6mls per day.

If quitting cigarets was easy, everyone would do it.

My dear!
The exact same thing has happened to me a couple times. I've been vaping for awhile, so once they showed up, I was a little rash on what it was and I too began to freak out.
The first time, I realized that two juiced from Apollo had made it happen. So, I just stayed away from them. That lump in the throat happens to me every once in a while as well..I just get it when I don't drink as much water and chain vape.
I can't really say anything on the heart burn, I get that stuff all the time(inherited..wonderful, right?).
The nausea is most likely coming from you accidentally swallowing juice and/or vapor..that's what makes me hiccup and burp from time to time.

Solutions!
Put down your PV for a bit, drink one glass of milk(or a teaspoon of vinegar for the heartburn), and lots of water.
For the burping and hiccups(if any) get a paper towel, place it on top of a glass of water and drink the water throw the towel..I swear on my life, this gets rid of my hiccups every time!

If things persist or get worse, go to a doctor.

I've been vaping for around a month or so. I mix my own liquids, so don't order any that are premixed. And, these symptoms started when I started vaping. If I vape throughout the day with no real cigs, they get worse. If I lessen the amount of vaping I do while smoking cigs, the symptoms ease off a bit.

I honestly don't think it's from quitting smoking, as I've quit cold turkey before and never had any of these symptoms.

When I go a day without smoking real cigs, I might vape around 2 ml to 2.5 ml of liquid. That is the most I ever vape at all. Most days, I do good to vape a single ml.

There really is no point in going to the doctor about it when he's only going to tell me to stop vaping, because the symptoms happen when I vape. What I'm trying to do now is figure out what about vaping is causing them, and then adjust my vaping.

I do tend to get juice into my mouth accidently. The delivery methods I use include clearomizers, carto tanks, and dripping. When I drip (which I do most of the time because the taste is much better), sometimes the juice comes through the drip tip and into my mouth. That might be what causes some of the nausea.

Thanks for the replies.

I've had the gas-in-tummy problem, and turned out to be due to how I was vaping a particular clearo (a T3, if it matters). In other words, it was the physical action of how I was vaping, not the substance I was vaping.

The draw on a T3 is very airy, moreso than the CE4 I also use. I actually have to vape them completely differently, otherwise I wind up swallowing air on the T3. Swallowed air made my stomach ache, gave me nausea, and more than a few burps... The method that works on my T3 is to puff it like a pipe, I actually don't inhale much of the vapor from it at all anymore. Still enjoyable and I still get my nicotine.

Hi.

I can think of a couple three things that might be contributing to the problem. Figuring it out is gonna be a process of elimination.

It might be an allergic or adverse reaction to PG or VG. But a bad or allergic reaction is usually combined with other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, rash/hives, intense itching... From your total description I don't think that's what's going on here. Some people do find PG to be an irritant and have to drop the level of PG in their liquids, not because of an allergic reaction but just because of the harshness.

I get heartburn almost every time I use a carto setup. Plain carto or a tank system. I have no idea why but it's not pleasant so I don't do cartos. I use an atty setup or clearomizers and the "carto problem" never shows up with those. You may want to try a different type of delivery device to see if that helps.

But I really suspect your problems are related to your vaping style. It sounds like you are lung inhaling and getting too much vape down your esophagus and it's causing the heartburn. That, and/or you are somehow gulping - swallowing air - in your vaping technique, which can cause the stomach problem/gas you describe. You may need to check your vaping style. The basic rule is you vape like you are smoking a cigar. Suck vapor into your mouth and to the back of the throat and no farther.

Here's hoping you can sort it out.

This sounds like an intolerence to the PG in your juices to me, and possibly artificial flavorings in your juice. I recommend trying some juices from vendors that offer 100% VG, all-natural, all-organic flavorings for juices that are less likely to cause adverse reactions. Below are three vendors that offer these types of juices:

Natural & Organic E-liquids - Home page Dripeez

Organically Flavored E-liquid | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

Vaperite | Organic and Natural Flavored Electronic Cigarette E Juice

Usually, I do about a 25/75% PG/VG ratio (The PG is probably actually higher than that considering the fact that my flavors have PG in them). I started out with higher PG (around 70%), and couldn't do that because the taste was way too harsh/burnt. The flavors come from The Flavor Apprentice, and the PG/VG/Nicotine comes from RTS Vapes.

How 'bout try vaping 100% VG with 5% distilled H2O and no flavor? This would confirm/eliminate the PG doubts. Granted, the lack of nic may cause some 'discomfort', but...

Please keep us posted as to your progress, or lack thereof!
