NO matter where it comes from, if it is nicotine, then it will always carry the association. A lot of other sources may have nicotine as part of its chemical make-up, but as soon as you extract it and use it for inhalation purposes, I don't see it as ever being viewed as truly innocuous. It may make some people feel better that they are not supporting Big tobacco, but it will cost you a lot and the choices of vendors and flavors would disappear.

Can nicotine be made synthetically? If it can then it would no longer be a tobacco product. See what I'm getting at?

You forget -- the government isn't the slightest bit rational, nor is it interested in behaving rationally. Regulatory agencies are like Humpty Dumpty: "A word means just what I choose it to mean . . . it's a question of which is to be master."

I think nicotine can be synthesized, but will remain way too expensive for vaping use. Many plants contain nic, but tobacco has so much more than anything else. It takes about 20 pounds of eggplant to have the same amount of nicotine as one cigarette.

You mean there's another use for Eggplant? Nobody in their right mind would eat that stuff...kinda like Brussel Sprouts. -gag-

Fried eggplant is delicious! Not the healthiest way to eat it, but very good. Baba ganouche is also very good, IMO. Brussels sprouts are very good roasted with some olive oil, salt, and pepper.

I have read that eggplant has, at most, 100 ng of nicotine per gram of vegetable. Seeing as 1,000,000 ng = 1 mg, I wouldn't think it's really enough to make a quitter relapse.

I noticed that you didn't say anything in the defense of Brussel Sprouts though. :)

Brussels sprouts lightly salted with olive oil, roasted in an oven on a sheet pan is an awesome way to eat your Brussels sprouts. There is not much that exists in the culinary world that doesn't have its own specific preparation required to make it enjoyable. Boiled Brussels sprouts? No! Roasted Brussels sprouts? OH yeah!

Yum! We roast ours that way, but we ususally mix in some other veggies. Our favorites with Brussels sprouts are sweet potato and a red onion. I could eat pounds of them that way.

Why to tobacco plants even make nicotine? Is it as a defensive poison to keep from being eaten? Or to addict animals so they keep eating it and spreading their seeds?

Synthotine would be so regulated they would make it a thought crime to want an anolog. So, we're talking far in the future. Double plus ungood.

Nicotine is a defense mechanism for the plant.
