I use the "DB Safety-Lok" syringe with the Luer-Lok tip no fuss no muss. Check out this link and hit the video clip to the right of the image to see how the juice will not come into contact with the numbers. I get these from my local pharmacy for about $.30 each. I buy the 3 ml/CC size and not sure if they come in any other size. When I get them I pitch the needle that comes with it and then use a 14 or 16 guage blunt tip.

3 mL BD Safety-Lok™ syringe with 22 G x 1 in. detachable needle, regular bevel, regular wall

Those are the same ones I get, what bugs me about them is that the plastic barrel tries to slide down over the needle if I'm not careful, and when it locks into place I have to practically break it off in order to keep using the syringe. If I do have to break it off, I use either tape or the lacquer that I use to glaze my polymer clay pieces that I sell on Etsy.

I have noticed that the numbers and hash mark rub off really easy on the syringes..Has anyone ever painted the numbers and hash marks with clear finger nail polish to keep them from rubbing off so easy..

Or may be you have another idea..

Thanks,
WendallB

I've used Scotch tape with great success but like your idea better :)

I guess I may be the oddball here but I just pitch the syringe :D

The local farm supply store has everything but 1ml syringes so I've got at least three each of 3, 6 and 12ml syringes but the clear fingernail polish idea sounds like a good one. I haven't found a local source for 1ml syringes yet so I'm still getting those from liberty-flights.

I have not found 1 ml syringes local either except the diabetic ones and the needle is to small so I also get mine at liberty-flights..

You can use the diabetic syringes if you pull the needle out. Take a pair of pliers and pull the needle straight out (no twisting or bending). You need to get a good grip and strong, steady pull and it will come out.

The ones I got from my neighbor are .5 ml, and are good for measuring flavors for small batches.

I pitch the syringe as well.

So funny to be reading this today. I asked my boss today if she knew of any syringes whose numbers don't rub off as easy. She had some safety syringes on hand that have the numbers under a plastic tube shield thing. (Technical term) I told her I had no intentions of using them for anything work related, but she let me take them anyway. I'm looking all over one, and I can't find a brand anywhere :(
