Hey there
I am wondering if you guys can offer me tips on wicking taifun gt2 for max vg juices?

The usual method seems to burn the wick fast (as expected)

am on a 28ga kanthal with 2.5mm ID and 7 wraps
i have tried with muji cotton, kendo and drago cotton.

The coil comes to about 1.6 ohms and i run on 11 or 12 watts, anything more, instantly the cotton burns.

any suggested methods to let the max vg flow through better?

On a couple of mine I used a Dremel tool to enlarge the tiny wick holes and give the wick more room. Also when wicking I leave a small loop before the wick exits out the holes; gives a small juice reservoir.

Being a small, 2.5mm coil you won't be able to use it with too much power. Not enough coil there to handle 30 or 40 watts but I have no problem taking them up a little if the wicking is proper. Airflow in a Taifun is too small to handle those bigger coil builds but they are one of the best flavor tanks.

If there's room use a piece of spare kanthal and kind of dig a hole in the cotton pressed against the hole. Get it in as far as you can, I usually go until the resistance gives and it can be moved freely back and forth. As long as the cotton is still covering the inner diameter of the hole it won't leak. Make it like an o inside an O. lol

I don't think i have the tools or the finesse to do it :(

Yes i agree the flavor on the tank is amazing so far with 50/50 juices. But like i said i had no luck with high VG juices. I understand the core problem might be that these high VG juices needed higher wattages? I might try with a 3MM id and see how it goes.

I liked GT2 using 20/70 PG/VG and Japanese cotton pads. Now I like it even more with 40/60 juice and simple cotton balls cotton. 3 mm coil. Long tails of wick - about 1/4" longer than diameter of a chimney. I do not put tails through juice channel, I push them down along walls of chimney. It's actually a lot of cotton, and it serves as a nice juice reservoir. When screwing in a chimeny cap do not screw it all the way down, leave juice channels as much open as possible. I used the same wicking for high VG juice also, it works fine. But in both cases do not expect to reach high wattage. I usually vape at 14-15 W.

Yeah i usually vape under 13W. And mostly use small coils. 3mm already looks like a tight fit on the taifun. I use 28ga, now trying on 26ga, no luck. So i guess i have to try 24 and see how it works.

i never really tried having long tails, may be something i should try then. I usually trim them close to the juice channel. Let me try them out

Thanks

Thanks Traveler, for that link
I tried to use the wicking in pic. 10, where the cotton is fluffed inside and it helps a lot. Had some initial leaking till i got the right amount of cotton and fluff, but was fine after that.

It works pretty well for juices that are 60VG/40PG - no dry hits, the flavor holds. I used 26ga, 8 loops on a 2.5mmID

However with max vg juice, i still have issues; taste does'nt really pop out and the vape is usually flat. And the gunk is much more faster on the coils. I don't know if it the juice, am trying with "wat a waffle max vg"

I use max VG. I wick like the hurricane with no issue. I don't see any point to passing the wick through the sides as opposed to treating it like a hurricane. Max VG wicks in the standard chimney with top cap all the way down fast enough to keep up with temp control and big mouth to lung hits st 4.7-5v
Since I started to wick like shown on pic. 11, I had zero (yes, not a single drop) leaks and good juice feeding for juices from 80/20 to 50/50 VG/PG/.

Yah my bad I missed someone posted it. That's the hurricane wicking style. Works like a champ with my 90%

Anyone know if there are deck screws available from somewhere other than the authentic which are clearly made of super soft metal? They strip like crazy. It's insane. I don't want to keep paying $10 to get screws that strip in a month or two.

Super easy to wick for max VG. Wick firmly in the coil. Put wick into the bushing cutouts. You do not even need the "wide bushing" available from smokerstore.de. Just the normal bushing. Cut the wick a couple MMs past the bushing. Prime the wick. Screw on the chamber cap but do not squash the wick. Take a small wire and comb the wick end in all directions around the opening. Doing this will make a funnel shape that will keep up with the applied power. I use titanium coils and set the temp at @490°F at 40watts.
