Okay, time for some more education please..
I recently acquired a Magoo from someone here on ECF. Once I realized that it would require resistance and NR wire, I was a bit, well let's say discomforted. While I am certainly capable of mating the wires in addition to the rest of the process, I was not looking forward to even more work to get something up and running. Yet more stuff to have to keep on hand.. I was thinking of selling it even before it had reached my counter. When I did receive it, I decided that I would at least give it a go. I cheated and bought some premade wires. It turned out to be a quick process and even easier since I had used premade wire. I tasted it and it was GOOD. I mean really good. So, I handed it to my girlfriend to let her try it... and she flat REFUSED to give it back! I may be in the market for another one soon.

As I understand it, the Magoo is a clone of the Ithaca. This style would be called a bottom fed tank system? I am not sure. What else is similar to the Ithaca besides the Magoo in design?

What would a Taifun/kayfun be considered? I cannot see clearly enough in the pics that I can find to see how exactly it is built. Does it perform on par with the Ithaca or its clones? Are they as difficult as the Fogger to get to wick properly? I have struggled with my coils on the Fogger v2 that I received recently. I cannot for the sake of my life get it right. It is either dry or flooded. I have tried several builds including ekowool and cotton. ATM it is sitting there waiting for me to decide whether I should sell it or wait for some more motivation.

the fogger is sort of a copy of the taifun, on the real one the wall around the coil drops down so you can build it without anything in the way. a couple other features still keep it above the quality of the fogger. it would be a bottom coil as well.

the Kayfun is a bottom feed also, the idea is simple the metal tube inside is covering the wick. it is built just like a standard dripper with two screws you attach the coil to, the wick hangs down over the sides of the head next to little channels in the sides of the head, then small holes on the bottom of the tube let a little bit of juice into the wick chamber where it goes up these channels where the wick soaks it up to the coil, when you take a drag the pressure draws in a little bit of juice and lets out a little bubble and keeps the wick wet.

its a very ingenuous design that is really easy to set up and works really good, when built just right there is no leaking or dry hits. so you end up with the flavor of a dripper and the volume of a big tank.

as far as whats better? mmm personal preference. several rate the taifun tops.

yea I think so, i know its cheaper(fogger), but so far the reports say it works good but def harder to work on because of the recessed coil area but not impossible. as well as several people having problems with airfow.
then there is spare parts, smoker store has parts and accessories out the yang for the taifun, how long until china moves on to something else and leaves everyone hanging on stuff for the fogger? meanwhile the tiafun is just taking off.

personally with the exception of the ithaka clones not to many copies stand up to the real ones, i know the russian is a direct clone but sheesh they want almost as much as the real one and at that point i would rather give the designer the extra 10 bucks lol

i know some stuff is expensive but I would rather spend that money once on something proven to work great and hold up over time. the only problem with a taifun at this point in time is they sell so fast you need to hit the preorder list and wait a month for shipping, the kayfun/ kayfun lights are everywhere now. i had 2 kayfun then sold them off and got 2 kayfun lights, love them, pocket friendly, lay em on the car seat whatever.

it usually take a couple shots to get the wick just right, too long clogs the channel too short can flood - after that you can toss one together in 5 min and vape till your ill (like i did today after rewicking lol)

So I might have more success with a KFL or Taifun than the Fogger v2 with respect to being able to set it up correctly?

absolutely, it took me 4 days of frustration to get my fogger v1 to work at all, even then it was nearly embedded in the wall a couple of times. i also have a KFL, and LOVE it. actually run it more than my gennys for my bobas bounty. clean flavor and almost no leaking. (dropped it and the clear tank shifted causing it to leak and flood). saving up for a provari and KF3.1 or possibly a taifun gt around tax time.

my current build is a 2mm piece of silica s-folded and wrapped with a 5/6 of 28guage. ended up at 1.7 ohms and hits almost as hard as my agat2 at .8 ohms. it looks really good on my vamo and sid, but its long

After much research and thinking about it, I ordered a Kayfun Lite tonight. It came down to the Russian 91% or the Kayfun Lite. The Kayfun was only one dollar more and I could find more spare parts for it than the Russian. The reviews said the Russian worked as good, but the workmanship was better on the Kayfun Lite. I also ordered some 28, 30 and 32 ga wire and some silica (also picked up some organic cotton today from CVS), Now just waiting for it all to arrive, so I can set it up and try it out. Hopefully it will work better than my Protanks.

Well, I may be confused as all get out about these whatchamacallits, but i think I have a solution to the hot tip problem... If you are running TWO coils with each one having four wraps of 28ga... there is the problem. When you double the number of coils, you halve the resistance. So, while one coil with four wraps of 28ga might get around .8Ω (which sounds about right), running dual coils the same way is going to put you around .4Ω. When you get that low things are going to heat up very quickly. Try using 30ga to wrap your dual setup

Just got my ismoka magoo copper finish. Just wondering if anyone else with an ithaka clone is having "hot tip" problems when taking 5 consecutive draws? This thing gets hot!!I didn't have ready wire, so my ohms is uncertain. I have 4 wraps of 28g kanthal, dual coil set up. So I'm guessing I'm at .8ohms

you like living dangerously i take it? good chance your stressing the F out of your battery as well. any idea of the amp limit on your battery? you really should be sure of what your doing when your going to hold a pipebomb next to your face

Hi all.. i got mixed feelings on all these bottom fed tanks.. for overall i love the Kay fun thick vape, flavor & ease if build.. the fogger i have two setups 1. On microcoils & cotton n the other microcoil on silica wick no flooding but needs to be adjusted for that perfect wicking.. ithaka is running on microcoils n cotton as well.. the taifun is microcoils on 2mm silica wick n another wick on top to prevent flooding.

No adapter as far as I know for the Ithaca. It is one piece all the way down to the chimney. Hasrin.. how did you get microcoils on an ithaca?

What I Did was Make the Microcoils 10-11 rounds, 29awg kanthal on a 2mm Diameter drill bit ended up with a 1.6 Ohm resistance, Measured the Ceramic dish.. Trimmed of the edges of the Microcoils & welded the NR wire to the edges... Next Wick change i will try to thread in 2mm Silica in the Microcoils.
