Taking the plunge into vapor...

My first post on the forums. I'm having a bit of a dilemma and would like to try to find a bit of advice about PVs in general and quitting smoking in-particular. I've been reading for the last few hours about what to smoke, what not to smoke, and what's considered the best of the best for newbies and more experienced e-smokers. This is really more of a "second opinion" kinda thing...

I'm wondering what people will think of me smoking electronic cigarettes, lol. Kinda an odd thing to worry about... The idea behind my interest is, I've all but quit smoking. I'd wondered about e-cigarettes for a while, but I felt that it was too expensive for me. I finally quit smoking using nicotine gum after two months of struggling. I am a somewhat "social" smoker... but that didn't stop me from smoking a pack and 1/2 a day on my own.

So, here's my question... What in your opinion would be the best choice in PV for a social smoker? honestly, i don't know that there is one... seeing as you're not actively "smoking" with the rest of the group. On the other hand, I'm around a bunch of nerds, so maybe it'd be an interesting conversation starter? lol.

I'm looking at a Joye 510 or eGo. Reading reviews and comments on here, and watching videos with so much smoke I KNOW I'd love it, either one seems like a good choice. I'd thought about getting the 510-t or ego-t for the tank vs the refillable cartridge as well. 510 looks more like a cigarette, though a bit bigger, and might be easier to carry with me, though it has a shorter battery life. the eGo is a lot bigger then the 510, but i like to smoke cigars, so being bigger won't hurt me a bit. Either one will stand out i suppose... As far as starting out with a PV I can use for a long time and carry with me, which would be better?

I'm GETTING a vaporizer in the next week, one way or another. The cigarettes are stopping and I'm going to switch to a habit that's cheaper, better for you... and honestly it looks like a lot of fun! Different flavors, no bad smell... i can't think of a downside to this vs smoking! I MAY even quit with the nicotine... eventually... lol

Welcome to the ECF. If you are okay with the size of the eGo/Riva, then it's probably the best choice. The battery life alone makes it a much better choice and the ability to use a wider variety of atomizers, cartomizers, tanks, etc. makes it even more appealing. They're only a little more expensive than a 510 and will provide much more enjoyment.

As for the reaction you'll get, it will likely range from "those things don't work" to "where can I get one." Whether it works for you is what really counts, but most people are pretty accepting. I actually like the fat bats or a mod in this respect, because people seem to be less critical when it doesn't look like you are "pretending" to smoke a cigarette.

If you get a 510 get a manual battery one!! Cignot.com has good no-box prices for real Joye brand.

But note on battery life...

100mah is about 1 hour of moderate vaping

Joye 510 - 180mah
Joye 510 w/ mega xl batteries - 280mah (long - about 128mm w/ a cartomizer)
Vapor4Life/KR808D-1 standard size - 280mah (prefilled cartos may be real handy for a social smoker)
Ego or Riva 510 - 650mah to 1300mah depending on size of battery

And I recommend Boge blank cartomizers for 510s. Standard resistance only for slim 510, and Riva 510 or Ego can use standard or the lower LR ones.

If you end up getting the small 510, look at the PCC and PCC manual kits at NoSmokeVA. I usually don't recommend clones 510's but that is a nice PCC. For mega xl 510 the only PCC is the Joye metal non-roomy one.

In my experience, most never smokers approve of vaping. In fact they seem to think it's pretty cool once it's explained to them. Best not to try to mimick cigarette smoking though. Go with an eGo or a box mod. The smokers I know laugh at me and curse me in a good natured way because I can vape where they can't smoke. The ex-smokers though, they don't seem to know what to think. It's like they are torn between being glad I'm not smoking and being ...... that they went through the torture of quitting and I haven't in their view.

I started with an RN4081 clone and quickly invested in an EGO with some 650/1000 mah fat batteries because I quickly tired of charging the 180 mah batteries every hour and a half. Although I've never tried attys and carts I use cartomizers which seem to be less hassle than attys and carts. Make sure you start off with a high enough nic level in whatever juice you vape. I started with 18 mg nic, but maybe start with 24 and go from there. I started with 18mg last February and just this week began vaping some 12 but I miss the throat hit and need to figure it out.
Either way, welcome to the forums. Great bunch of folks here.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! been watching video reviews... i was thinking REALLY hard about getting a eGo-T, but the more i read about it, the more i feel like it may be a little tricky for me to get the hang of, and may not be as solid smoke and flavor wise as I'd like... That and i don't really want a combed tip to it. I've got my mind set on the eGo now. I will DEFINITELY check out VaporCastStore.com, it looks like a good deal as well. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Yall posting got me looking at cartomizers too, just to find out what they were really... looks interesting, possibly easier then dripping every time? Honestly, I'm scared I'm going to go WAY overboard on this stuff. I'm seriously excited about these PVs!! I need to get off the computer now before i find more things i want to spend money on! @-@

For Riva - Liberty-Flights.com - press the 20% off in the upper left of front page then look at the Riva 510 and Ego kits

I got my Riva 510 Lite Bundle for under $30 (2 complete 750mah Rivas)

I would recommend very vigorously not buying your Riva battery related components from Liberty Flights. My 2 cents.
Enjoy.

Just my $0.02 ..

The eGo/Riva isn't much longer than the 510. And you know how they say that black has a slimming effect? I think my black eGo looks very compact.. Slim indeed. Moreso than my bubblegum pink Riva.

My neighbor saw me vaping at a neighborhood cookout during Memorial Day weekend and said she thought I looked quite sophisticated .. so I imparted some knowledge her way and directed her here. I'm planning a meetup to help her test different atties and cartos and juices.

For social smoking.. The eGo cone (to me) helps cut down on leakage.. is a tad heavier and fatter than a 510 but not MUCH longer, black slims down its appearance, and I'd rather have that than a pcc or an extra battery in my purse/pocket. Just me though.

The more i think about it, the more i think i'll do the eGo. I worry too about going out with my buddies at break during class (college) and having the end of the e-cig light up, that may be nice about the eGo too. I'm reading and reading and reading... watching reviews... I keep saying i'm gonna get off and i have a question about how something works or what something does and i get dragged back here! lol. found http://vapingguides.com/, this will help me tremendously. Like... i'm watching people review things and drip in the tip and do this that and the other. Trying to find the way to get the most flavor and liquid on the move at work or whatever else. I'm trying to see if i can avoid carrying a bottle around in my pocket all day! lol. I'll keep yall posted, thanks for the advice!

Skip the part where you buy the smaller 510 because it looks like a cigarette. That phase will pass in about 2 weeks when you get fed up with charging batteries all the time. Wish I had... it would've saved a lot of money. Looks like you should get a Riva 510 carto kit from liberty-flights.com... Here is the link.
Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

It is the 2nd one down... but, they don't have any stock!!! Sorry, it would have been perfect.
Based on what you have said, you don't want to carry bottles of liquid with you. To me that SCREAMS cartomizers.. The Riva / eGo is a LOT smaller than you think. About the length of a Swisher sweet and probably 1/2" in diameter at the base. They are very attractive. As for people judging you, I have converted at least 4 people to buy e cigs within the past 2 weeks. They always want to know about it and then end up asking me where to go to purchase one. So, really, I think the reactions you will get are going to be more positive than you think, especially if they are younger.

Hey Shootbang,

Look at madvapes.com's roughstack. I use the regular v2 with 3.7v battery and dual coil clearomizers. If you call you can get a complete kit (pv, 2 batteries, 5 cartomizers, battery charger and bottle of juice) for $70. I know that's a little more money than an ego, but other than more juice, you're set for a LONG time. I smoked for 17 years, tried every gum, patch, inhaler, lozenge, pill & hypnotist with no success. I had a normal 501 cigarette style, still smoked tradional cigs whenever possible. I tried the ego, but was still sneaking analogs every day. The roughstack COMPLETELY satisfied my urges, looks great, is very simple, rugged, and small. Battery lasts my whole day (I run a restaurant and pull 16 hour days on a regular basis). Customer service is fantastic, and every smoker friend of mine who has vaped it is amazed, I'm going back on Thursday to buy 6 more (I live an hour away from madvapes' warehouse). I know I'm the minority opinion here, but I believe thats because there's only a few roughstacks out there compared to the widespread ego. Plus it's American made right here in NC, not in China. I am in no way connected to madvapes, just a customer who could not be any more satisfied.

P.S. Non-smokers and smokers will love your e-cigarette whichever you choose. Ex-smokers hate it, they say I'm cheating. Like we should all have to suffer to give up traditional cigs.
