Hey guys and gals I could use some advice. Here's whats going on:

Been fooling around with different resistance stuff. From carto tanks to BCC to you name it.

I wasn't getting much life out of my cartos in my tanks so kept switching the resistance. Finally got sick of that and started using my BCC mega from VapeOnly.

So after doing some research, found a couple of charts with suggested volts for given resistance. Seems like I had the voltage set way too high, which would explain why I was only getting a day or so out of the carto tanks, and why the juice turned dark.

So I'm using the BCC's with reduced voltage and all was well.

Then I noticed that the resistance was creeping up little by little. I have my Evic set up to show the ohms. BCC started at 2.2, then 2.5, and so on. Finally got up to 4.0 before the evic just defaulted to "no atomizer found"

So, I'm thinking it's an evic problem so I test the resistance on another device, where it reads 9.9 ohms

Now I'm wondering:

Is this just how these replacement heads die, by gradually increasing in resistance until failure?

Could it be because of the juice I'm using gunking up the atomizer?

Would voltage set too low be as bad as too high?

Here's the setup:

Evic
Bcc Mega
2.2 ohms
3.5 volts
50/50, 24 mg juice

Thanks!

Too low a voltage for a particular juice seems to gunk the coils quicker. And I understand the high VG may do the same - but don't know about that, as I'm an 80/20 vaper.

Dark and / or thick juices will gunk coils faster than thinner ones, too.

How much juice are you putting through these before they change?

That's the problem, it's not like I'm getting weeks and weeks, it's more like a few days. I know that dark and/or thick juice will gunk up the works quicker than light/thin juice.

Also, the one that evic wouldn't read and the other read as 9.9 - I rinsed and cleaned it, still no joy. Maybe just a bad head, but considering that I had the same issue with a totally different delivery system (carto tanks) leads me to believe I'm doing something wrong

Time isn't as significant as amount of juice through it. Not knowing your vaping habits... what's your average consumption per day? 3 ml? 30 ml? :vapor:

I typically vape 3 to 4 mls per day, so for me, that would be about 12 mls in 4 days, and I haven't had any issues at that rate, with coils going open.

Does the eVic have different settings for average and RMS voltage? If so, maybe try the other setting?

Good luck!

And you might want to ask over here:

where there might be evic users who can help.

Yep, I'll ask over there as well.

Just to clarify, for me a heavy vaping day is 3 ml, so when I say a few days you're looking 10-12 ml of juice vaped MAX. I mean, that would be 4 straight days of the heaviest vaping ever for me. That's why I'm thinking something's wrong with my settings. Also I should mention that this behavior is not exclusive to the eVic, it's done it across multiple devices. I used a different mod for the majority of the day and noticed the upward creeping of the resistance, but it finally bit the dust when mounted on the eVic

Set your meter to its lowest Ohm setting, typically 200.

Plug in the leads and turn the meter on. Short the probe tips to each other and note the reading. It should be very low, i.e. 0.5 to 1.5 for the test lead resistance is the difference between good test leads and the light weight ones you get with the low end ($5) meters.

Then measure your coil and subtract the lead resistance.

I also find it useful to "pencil sharpen" my leads, to a fine point. 40 years in the trade, and I still remember some of what I knew :p

And the low end meter is really all you need for coils, although the purpose built ohm checkers do have some convenience. They seem to go for about $20 when they're in stock!

I'd surmise you won the prize and got the bad batch, but odds of that across numerous devices....

After about that amount of juice I'll usually clean them, and periodically meter them after re-assembly, and haven't noticed the resistance going up.

Unless the juice is so acidic it's attacking the coil? Nah. Wouldn't think so.

3.5v is pretty darn low for 2.2ohms, what other devices are you using?
