I just bought 2 tanks from vapefest. One is a lava tank from volcano and the other is a dct tank (I think they are both the same - they look exactly alike). My question is with the cartos. Do I have to buy the prepunched ones? My husband has a puncher tool and I tried to use one of his punched cartos and it didn't fit properly. It looks as if when he punched a hole in it, the area around it was also bent so it wasn't completely round. Am I stuck with buying prepunched or did he just do it wrong?

I've yet to find a carto punch tool that doesn't distort the carto some. Forcing an oval object (tool-punched carto) through a round one (tank's end caps) can put wear and tear on the inner o-rings in the end caps. The o-rings are what keeps a tank from leaking and is what determines how well the tank fits snug on the carto.

Using the laser-drilled cartomizers eliminates this problem. I have compiled a huge list of online vendors that sell pre-punched cartos in my blog, in the link below my avatar.

I also recommend purchasing a tank tool such as a Slap Yo Moma tool from Big Daddy Vapor. This tool will also help protect your o-rings from the sharp edges on the top of the carto.

Bad's advice is great. you wont have issues of the carto fitting if you use pre-punched cartos.

however, some tanks are more forgiving with slightly out-of-round cartos. my IBTanked tanks allow me to use manually punched cartos. but the DCT i have wont allow them. there is absoltely no give - the opening is only large enough for perfectly round cartos.

one tip that has helped me use manually punched cartos is to tape them tightly before punching. just wrap one revoultion of tape around where youll punch them. punch the hole, them remove the tape. itll keep them more round. if they still end up oval-shaped, you can give em a little squeeze with a pair of pliers. BUT, as you can already see, this is much more work than buying prepunched.

but it will save you some cash. for me, it was a matter of using cartos i had already purchased. i hardly use cartos outside of a tank, so for me i have found a way to use them again.

Thanks Bad! Still new with the tanks. I guess ill buy prepunched for now. Going to check with my dad to see if he has anything that can punch holes too (he owns a machine shop that makes aerospace parts - do you think the size of the hole matters?)

Another question for you - I have myfreedomsmokes plunger kit. Mainly use it to clean some cartos, but I'm afraid to try it for filling. Have you any experience with it? I'm just afraid of getting the hole wet. I do like your toothpick trick though!
