Hi Everyone:

Happy New Year! I am still a newbie and have tank questions. As this has probably been asked over and over, please feel free to point me to a past post. My questions deal with vaping consistency and cleaning. I am currently using a ViVi Nova 3ml tank and 2.8ohm atomizer on a ProVari V2. I've noticed that after 4-5 days of vaping the liquid becomes much darker and must be discarded and the tank cleaned. I've also noticed that there are different type tanks using an atomizer that does not have wicks but a metal tube with holes. Are those better? Also, I've noticed there are rebuildable atomizers like the Phiniac priced at over a $100. Are those worth it and are they easy to maintain? I have no complaints with the ViVi Nova, but am always looking for a better and more efficient way to vape.

Cheers,
James Welborn

I haven't noticed my juice getting darker with Vivi Novas but I have with genesis rebuildable atomizers. The only thing I can think of that would cause you juice to turn darker is if your wick is getting burnt but a Vivi Nova should last longer than 4-5 days unless you are vaping at a very high wattage.

I'm not familiar with any wickless tanks with a metal tube with holes. That's a new one on me. Maybe somebody else can help you with that.

The Phiniac rebuildable atomizers is the Cobra and it is expensive because it is made out of titanium and a quality made RA. Since I haven't read any negative reviews about it I would say it is worth the money if you can afford it.

If the wicks in a Vivi Nova (and other top-coil cartos/tanks) aren't kept sufficiently wet with juice, you can get some burning of the juice at the coil (this can also happen with some juices whether the wick is kept wet or not). This will generally happen over time anyway. This burnt 'gunk' can then leach back into your juice, causing the discoloration. A quick hot water rinse and dry burn after 2-3 tank fulls should minimize this.

I've also noticed that there are different type tanks using an atomizer that does not have wicks but a metal tube with holes.
This sounds like the Genesis-style attys. The metal tube is actually rolled up stainless steel screen (mesh). These are rebuildable attys/tanks and generally do not come 'ready-to-vape'; you need to make the wick and coil. These also have a fairly steep learning curve.

There are many 'clones' coming from China in the rebuildable atty/tank market that are much more inexpensive than the originals. Most of them work fairly well. If you have the money and like the flash (do you own a Porshe? ;)), go for the expensive ones. On the other hand if you drive a Pontiac (like me :D), the clones work just fine.
