There is a terrific library here that can answer those questions. Baditude has an excellent article in particular. Short form, clearomizer is a tank system with a wick and coil at either the top or bottom, TCC or BCC. Cartomizer is a tube with a wick, coil and absorbent filler material to hold liquid. I like these in a tank with holes punched into them. Atomizer is a tube with a coil and a small reservoir that holds liquid at the bottom. There are also rebuildables in most of these styles, if you are a DIYer. What's the best? The one that keeps you off of stinkeys. Good luck, good research and have fun!

Atomizer- A coil that when engaged produces enough heat for ionization to occur with some materials.
Clearomizer- Atomizer inside of a tank.
Cartomizer- Atomizer inside of polyfill wick, inside of a tube.

RBA- Rebuildable Atomizer.
RDA- Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer.
I'm just offering those for terminology. I'd advise you to find other mediums first, and get familiar with vaping and basic concepts of electricity before pursuing RBA's.

There are also cartomizer tanks, which I primarily use. I've found cartomizers to offer ME more flavor and a denser cloud of vapor. They can also withstand higher voltages from the amount of liquid that stays around the coil with a well functioning cartomizer. Clearomizers give me a milkier, looser cloud, and they can't withstand near the same amount of Power as a cartomizer can.

Whatever delivery method you start out with, I highly suggest getting a drip atomizer. I love them. Not only do they produce great vapor and flavor, but they are the best way to try new liquids, or if you just feel in the mood for a wide variety of flavors or liquid ratios.

Atomizer/tank cartridge/cartridge: This combo of an atomizer that fits tank cartridges (just juice in a tank) or old-school regular cartridges (that use a filler material medium to hold the juice) is kind of outdated. It's just an atomizer on top of a reservoir of juice that feeds into the atomizer and you vape it.

Cartomizer: This is a portmanteau of the words cartridge and atomizer. It's an atomizer that is wrapped with polyfill. You add liquid to it and it keeps the atomizer coil wet with juice when you vape it. Sometimes they are paired with a tank system that uses punched holes in the side of the cartomizer to allow juice to feed into the polyfill and keep it wet.

Clearomizer: Usually the CE series of tanks or BCC that has either a ceramic or silica based wick wrapped in a coil of either nichrome or kanthal wire. The juice is contained in the tank and wicks up to the coil via the wick which is non-flammable.
