I started vaping a week ago with a MVP. The box came with an iClear30, I also picked up a Kanger protank 2 mini as a backup. This setup works without drama during the week, where it either sits in my jacket, or the table (basically they sit upright for most of the day). During weekends, I like to do snowboarding, or out on the motorcycle. I spend the last weekend snowboarding, and I carried only the protank, and the darn thing leaked like a sieve. Now during snowboarding, I am always moving around and with the slush conditions these days, I tend to fall down a lot :) This weekend, I am planning to go camping, and exploring some trails on the motorcycle.

For all of you guys that carry a PV on a fairly active day where the PV tends to get bounced around a lot, do you have any recommendations for a clearomizer? Or maybe any tips that I might be overlooking? My worst case plan is to carry the PV in a ziploc bag, and carry spare liquid as a backup.

Any changes in temperature or air pressure will have an effect on a tank. They basically work like a straw in a soda where you put your finger over the top and pull up with soda still in it until you release. By their design, they cannot be leak proof so knocking them around or moving from your warm car to a snowy mountain is going to have some effect.

The ziplock is a good choice but a old film case would be better. If you clean it out well and you get a leak, you can at least try to salvage your juice. I have a blunt tip syringe that works well.

Or you could just have pre-filled or filled cartomizers for your days out.......they are less likely to leak.

EDIT: I have a small camera case that I keep a small zip lock, a napkin, an extra coil, extra juice and/or and extra external battery and/or film case if needed

I've got a news flash for you....

It's not the bouncing around that is causing your tanks to leak, it is the altitude change.

The seal between the liquid and the chimney in your ecig is maintained by air pressure. If you take a puff at high altitude and then ski down to a lower altitude the air pressure outside increases but inside remains the same. That change in air pressure breaks the seal between your liquid and the chimney, allowing liquid to flow into the chimney.

I've run into similar problems rock climbing and rappelling in the mountains. Even driving on mountain roads have caused my clearos to leak before.

What I would suggest is to buy some cartomizers (NOT Cartotanks) to use on the slopes. Cartos rely on a filler material to hold the liquid, not air pressure, so they're not going to leak because of altitude changes.

I would agree with the posts above that the altitude change will definitely be the most likely cause for such leakage. Anyone who has flown with a PV and tank will tell you. So I think that is probably what is happening because I am constantly active with my PV and it often sits sideways in my pocket for short periods of time and have never had enough juice leak out to need to carry extra juice or need a bag or even wipe away juice with any tank I use. Of course all of the tanks I use do leak minimally out of the 510 or air hole but keep in mind... ANY tank needs to have an opening for both juice and air to reach the atomizer chamber so therefor will ALWAYS have a way for some juice to get out. Of course tilting and turning allows the juice to eventually find its way down and out but even upright, vapor condensation from the atomizer will form in the air hole and eventually gravitate down. Changes in [pressure of course amplify this.

I never experienced leaking issues with Aspire BDC Vivi Nova-S (510)

I'll bet you've never driven from 4,800ft altitude up to 14,000 feet altitude in less than 2 hours either. I've watched bubbles of liquid seeping out of an iClear 30s while driving up Mount Evans before. Not just from the drip tip either, it was oozing out the top cap as well. Simple problem of the inside of the tank being at the air pressure of 4,800 feet and outside air pressure being at 10,000+ feet. The tank needs to equalize the air pressure, and if the liquid is in the way then it gets leaked out too.

My Protank-III never leaks, I charge it over night on its side on the mvp and everything.

To be honest, my protank-II mini does not leak on a normal day, and neither does the iclear30. And when I look back, the snowboarding example was probably an extreme - my lift history says I did over 26k ft across 20 lifts throughout the day. It's more than I usually hit, and probably because I was trying to get to terms with the increased lung capacity :)

The weekend trip I have planned is some mild dirt roads, with minimal elevation changes - maybe 3 or 4k throughout a day. Carrying both the tanks gives me 4-5ml of juice, which is plenty to last me 3 days. I think I should be all set, although I'll still carry my contingency plan of spare eliquid. I've been smoke free for almost 14 days, and it's too good to give up.

So both tanks leaked last weekend. I don't honestly know whether it was the altitude or because trail riding on motorcycles is going to be bumpy as such. One thing that I figured out bear the end of the trip was that it's much better to keep the tank only 1 ml full and top it off in the evening. It's a pain in the ..., but it ended up being the only reliable way to minimize spillage. And I am glad I chose the ziplock, the I clears leaked all 3ml during the first couple of days...

Edit: So the protank II mini faired better than the iclear30 in the motorcycle test. There were a few mountain passes in the way, daily elevation changes were probably like 5000 ft or so. In the snowboard test, the sides were reversed, the iclear30 was nearly bomb proof while the protank just wouldn't stop leaking.

Also, i may have mentioned this earlier, but my setup does not leak during the normal weekday, I hardly have any problems with it. During the weekends I try to be outdoors, either on the snowboard till the end of the season or out on the motorcycle. It is the weekends that I have the leak fests :)

Living in the Sky Islands area of Arizona, I get altitude some change all the time. The system I am currently vaping on is in my "newish" car. I think it has decent seals. Well, my ears don't pop. Being out on the ground, maybe, I should just use a dripper? Maybe carrying a filled tank in a pill bottle? Probably maintain the air pressure well enough.
