I started esmoking about 3 weeks ago, and now since quitting Coffee has taken on a real sour/rotten taste.

Has anyone had the same problem?

I bought a new coffee maker, and have tried 3 different cans of different kinds of coffee, and I know the taste (even the premium store bought which ive drank for years)

I dunno if its cause the inside of my mouth is coated from hitting the vapor 24/7, or if that since my taste is returning coffee actually does taste rotten and horrible like im sucking on a cup of mold

Anyways any advice on getting the flavor back would be sweet

I think it has something to do with the combination of taste and smell. I am also a heavy coffee drinker, since quitting smoking and vaping for about 4 months, I am much more sensitive to my "coffee breath". When smoking, I was accustomed to chewing gum to help mask smokers breath which also covered up the horrible combo of smoker + coffee breath. Since vaping, I now longer chew gum routinely, but notice my bad coffee breath as a result. Add in the improved sense of smell and taste, I am not surprised you could find the taste of coffee less than favorable. In addition, if you like me needed that first hit of nicotine and first cup of coffee to function every morning, then the two addictions become psychologically linked to each other. Do you find the smell of other smokers repulsive? If so, you may be associating that repulsion to the taste and/or smell of coffee as well. Just a thought, consider switching to tea as also recommended.

Funny that this post came up this morning. I was just about to post on the subject of coffee myself. My experience was just the opposite though. Vaped instead of smoking just before bed. Woke up to my morning coffee, took a sip and thought "GEEZ that tastes good this morning"! It took a few minutes to realize why it tasted better.

I'm a little partial to the taste buds coming back to life idea, though mold or a rotten flavor sound pretty bad! Have you tried a cup of coffee after brushing teeth and mouth rinse? (defeats the point of brushing, I know but one way to test the theory). I have found coffee to taste a little different as well, but not so negatively. Cream and sugar?

same here. I had to completely clean out my coffee maker and I'm headed out to buy some different creamer since I noticed my coffee tastes much different since I quit smoking.

Regular creamer now sucks (it used to be okay), french vanila creamer *needs something*, it used to be too sweet, and I can now taste the difference between cane sugar and beet sugar. I prefer the cane sugar. Used to be it didn't matter, they were all the same in a cup of joe.

Day 5 vaping for me, and the difference is already significant.

Vaping now for about two weeks, and a heavy coffee drinker. I have noticed that since quitting analogs I taste more COFFEE. Coffee is a bitter drink and depending on what you smoked it could have been augmenting the real flavor. Give it some time, give your coffee maker a vinegar douche and see if that helps. just my .02

Similar experience for me. Last week (week 4 of vaping), I noticed that lots of things, but mainly coffee had an odd taste. Also stopped being able to taste my vape flavours at the same time. Although, after a couple of days, everything started to taste good again.

Going by other threads around that time, I came to the idea that it is purely the taste buds recovering from years of abuse! Strange that a lot of people seem to get a similar issue around the 3-4 week marker though!

I'm kind of a coffee snob. I special order my beans and everything. Then I'm a brat about it and I "mess" (my husbands saying) it with creamer and splenda. I've always been sensitive about the taste/acidity/boldness etc. I have noticed a change in my coffees taste- a rise in the acidity? I was crediting it to a increase in my sense of smell. Coffee always tastes like mana from above to me, but I've switched to a lower acidity bean because I WAS noticing a change. Good luck! Try sampling brands- check out your local coffee shop (we have a cute one that's inside a gently rebuild bank vault). This could be a great chance to explore better (IMHO) coffee beans!

Interesting topic. I noticed after less than a week that my senses of taste and smell were improving. Mostly a good thing ... but, I do notice when I'm near a smoker. And, notice other scents (good and bad) which I wouldn't have noticed at all a month ago.

But, C O F F E E E E ! :) Tastes better than ever to me! :)
I do doctor it up with sugar and creamer, but always have. Maybe those of you who are finding the taste to be not so great should try that ... if you aren't already. Just a thought.

Hi NCC, I also doctor with sugar and always have. I used to drink coffee by the bucket when I was smoking as always stopped by the coffee machine when returning to my desk after a ciggy! Now because I am not going out for a smoke, I am not drinking anywhere near as much coffee as I did. Maybe the taste differences I have noticed over the past couple of weeks is because my caffine addiction is in recovery too! lol

Although that first morning coffee always seems to taste better than ever!

My coffee has been tasting stronger lately but I never thought about the vaping as a cause. I also recently switched from non-dairy creamer to heavy cream and Agave Nectar instead of sugar. (Have read alot lately about avoiding any non- and low-fat substitutes because they are bad! Hydrogenated is evil!) My coffee has actually tasted much better as a result and I don't get a insulin spike either.

I only have the one very strong cup a day but my coffee is a MUST!

Vaping for a smidgen over a week now and I noticed that my beloved Duncan Donuts coffee tastes burnt8-o

I hate to think how bad Starbucks is gonna taste - since I always thought that their coffee was a tad over-roasted anyway. (note to self - take a sip from a friends order before ordering!)

The good coffee at home is even better than it was before though. And my my good green and white teas are just divine. :D
