Hi all, been vaping about 3 months and am 2 months analog free. So awesome. Learned a whole bunch in that time but am still a noob. Tried everything I could get my hands on topper wise (and could afford) and wound up loving the iclear 16 and 30's, and a few cartos. I get sooo ...... when they leak (mostly the iclears). They start off all great and leak free and then BAM.. The gurgle crap starts and I have to break out the q tips. My trash can looks like I have a bad fungus or something. Its maddening. Im all careful not to overfill and the o rings arent shot so why the intermittent leaks?

Also, anyone have a cheap alternative to Halo's Tribeca? I love it but cant afford it..

Thanks

Welcome, and congrats on dropping the analogs. :)

I used to have leaking issues with my iClear 30's. I just make sure I tighten the bottom up (not TOO tight, mind you) before putting any juice in, and it works awesomely. Maybe you're just not tightening it up too much? Also, I've noticed that if you overfill it, you'll get small leaks via the bottom. Not terrible, but noticeable. Be sure you're not filling up too much.

I've never tried Halo e-liquid before. But, I stand behind my local vape shop, The Vapor Door, for my liquid now. Once their website is up, you should check them out! Under Construction

Lot of factors on why tanks leak, but they all leak, and do so by design. The liquid leaks into the atomizer chamber while air leaks into the tank. State O'Flux has an excellent blog that explains Bernoulli's Principle (fluid dynamics) and why all tanks leak:

The key is to correct the tank when it starts to gurgle and BEFORE it starts to leak. Many good videos on YouTube on specific devices that show how to maintain and correct the gurgle/leaks in a timely manner. Eventually, it becomes so second nature to do, that many vapers swear their tanks never leak. They do, it's just that the flooding/gurgling is corrected before leaking. Nature of the beast. PRESSURE. Good luck and welcome to the Forum.

What is the proper way to correct it when the gurgle starts?

Alot of the gurgling comes from the tube being full. The best way to deal with that is tip the tank away from the liquid inlets and vape it. However if the tube is really flooded, using that method will only make things worse. You will need to blow it out with a paper towel in this case, which is rather difficult with a 510 connection. Its alot easier with Ego, Vgo, 808 type connectors. Also drying the battery connection off is important when the flood get heavy. If all else fails I pull out the wick and coil assembly and towel them off a bit.

What is the proper way to correct it when the gurgle starts?

Depends on the topper in question. However, clearing the carto by blowing upward and toward the coil into a Kleenex or paper towel is a start. Then run a pipe cleaner or Qtip down the air tube, and refill the eliquid back to the correct level. Pressure has everything to do with leaking and why our clearos often leak when they get low. An imperfect seal allows just enough pressure differential to allow a gurgle that leads to a flooding that leads to a leak. Check to make sure everything is sealed correctly. Even the coil can become loose through usage, so double check it as well. Do not remove a flavor wick unless you are using 100% VG and the device just won't wick. So, clear, clean, refill, tighten and watch your draw. Draw technique can cause the leak as well. Long slow draws, not short powerful puffs. The key it get the juice into the chamber and to atomize that juice at about the same rate as the chamber receives the juice. Also, wick material and coil temperature play a role. The main thing is to just check the topper frequently and to correct any issues as they arise, so be aware of what your topper is doing. Good luck!
