Is tasting no-nic juice a fairly accurate way to test a flavor and its strength?

Do we need to be concerned about PGA with the atty - is there any potential flame hazard?

Well, I started out simple but it gave me a good idea of the flavor concentration. I used Capella's Pralines & Cream with a 50/50 base of 12mg and a couple of drops of PGA. It tastes really good.

Then I used Capella's Double Chocolate in the same 50/50 base but with less flavoring. It's a much stronger flavor than the Pralines & Cream. I wish I had some marshmallow or dairy to add but it's a good start the way it is. I was thinking about adding some PA Bavarian Cream??

I figure once I feel comfortable with the basics I can get into the more layered flavors. It doesn't seem too difficult since I don't have to be exact on the mg like vendors do.

I love creamy flavors and the best flavor I've found for smoothing out a sharper one or making an already smooth one creamy is LorAnn's Cheesecake flavor. I highly recommend it, I just throw in 10% of it in just about anything and it improves it. I bet it would go great with Capella's Double Choc., I just don't have any to test it.

No-nic testing is very accurate, the only difference will be the nicotine flavor in the real thing.

There's no risk using PGA in your e-liquid, and even if you use it in a strong enough concentration to be a fire hazard (50% or more PGA) it would still need a spark to burn instead of vaporize (plus you'd get a massive instant hangover).

I have some Lorann's Cheesecake so I'll add that to some of my Double Chocolate. The chocolate I made last night is way too strong this morning. I think it's the combination of burnt out taste buds and the flavor having time to ripen. I think I need to cut the flavor almost in half!

I added a touch of menthol (as suggested by someone here) and it does taste like a Peppermint Patty.

Do you direct drip when checking the flavor? How do you get the taste of the previous juice in the atty from coming through - just blow it out?

I usually add menthol to my chocolate mixes as well, it's a good combination. I'd like to know at what % your using the Double Chocolate, the Capella section of my guide is lacking.

Direct dripping is usually the best way to test since you don't have to use a bunch to fill up the cart or clean the cart afterward.

Cleaning out the old flavor depends on how specific you want to be, but blowing it out will still leave the atty moist with the old flavor. Personally if I really don't like the taste, I rinse with warm water, then shake it in a shotglass with a bit of everclear, then rinse with water again and blow it out. Sometimes if the atty hasn't been thoroughly cleaned recently I do a dry burn as well, but atty cleaning is a whole new ball game. Then again, I'm kind of picky about flavoring so just a rinse will do most people fine.

When I'm doing a taste test session I blow out the atty, use a mix of plain PG/VG and vape a coupe drops of it, and blow again. Also I try to go from weak flavors to strong ones in my testing, tho this doesn't always work and some flavors will surprise you with how long they hang around in the atty. Capella's French Toast is one of those flavors. I put it in the middle of the list of things I'd be testing one night and had to start a fresh atty because it would have taken me hours to get rid of the flavor to est something else. It's a wonderful flavor, but very lingering. I always do my testing with no nic because you end up vaping A LOT and that much nic would be way too much.

Thanks for all the great helpful tips!! :)

I started with about 10 drops of Capella's Double Chocolate in a 5ml base and it was way too strong. I thought that would be a weak solution to start with because of the Pralines & Cream and Cinnamon Swirl not being very strong. But it's much stronger, especially after sitting overnight. It's a good, rich chocolate and I think it will be a good chocolate layer in many recipes, but probably starting at <5 drops in a 5ml base.

You do mean Capella's for those flavors right? And if you know how much Pralines & Cream and Cinnamon Swirl you use I could add that info as well.

LOL Yes I meant Capella. I can't give you an accurate amount yet, but I will take notes as I become more comfortable with the basics and receive the supplies I have on order.

BTW... Received notice today the PA shipped the order I placed last night! Linda said, "your bottles will all come with dropper caps (except the 2.5)." So I don't know why my last order didn't have them.
