Somewhere out there
What is the benefit of Kanthal ribbon over regular kanthal? and what size of the flat ribbon is equivalent to 32awg?

I'd also like to know about the size. I don't do really low ohms, I've used 32, 33 or 34 gauge for 2.0 to 2.5 ohms.

32 gauge round Resistance (ohms per ft @ 68 deg F) 13.1
31 gauge round Resistance (ohms per ft @ 68 deg F) 10.6
.4mm ribbon Resistance (ohms per ft @ 68 deg F) 11.4
.5mm ribbon Resistance (ohms per ft @ 68 deg F) 9.2

So would .4mm be OK?

What I've read is the flat ribbon has more surface area so there's more liquid contact.

More surface area contacting the wick means more vapor production and less wasted heat.

0.4 will be a close match to 32awg but I'd go with 0.5 and toss an extra wrap on there to match the resistance you're shooting for.

I personally use 0.5x0.1 on my variable and 0.8x0.1 on my mechanical. It's all a matter of preference.
