Hi guys, I'm thinking about getting a Terminator / Oddy clone as I keep reading it has great taste, but i'm wondering if it's really that much better than Genesis RBAs or my currently best tasting devices, the Phoenixs running on SS Mesh

Any thoughts? isn't using silica per se inferior to SS Mesh when it comes to taste?

thanks in advanced, at $70's for a clone I'm debating whether it's worth it (I could grab a secondary device, my main being a provari, for that price)

this really really depends on how the device is engineered, there are a few cord wick devices that shatter that notion that the taste is inferior but the peeps who made them went out of their way to make that happen.
I havent tried the oddy clone but if it works like the real thing it will be fantastic. but remember that taste is always subjective. what others like you may not.
in the end, if you dont like it get verified and drop it in the classifieds here and someone will take it for close to what you pay if you dont like it.

just like the real one i think it uses resistance AND non resistance wire though. not sure.

Silica having an inferior taste is an outdated myth IMO. My Penelope is by far one of the best tasting devices i've ever owned. SS mesh wicks tend to give most juices a slightly different flavor than silica, cotton, etc. but some juices actually taste better in my Penelope than any genesis to me. Keep an eye on the coops if you want to try one cheaper, you should be able to get in on one sooner or later. Don't think that using silica is a no go because some RBA's that utilize silica are amazing and my Penelope is by far my most pocket friendly RBA and the only one I ever take out of the house any more.

silica vs mesh is something that can never be decided on because like Phreaky said, taste is subjective. Silca gets a bad rap, and its not without a foundation. Priming a piece of silica is far easier than mesh for many like me. Plain silica from most vendors is sub par. All silica needs to be prepped to get any off taste. SOme dont prep and are perfectly happy, me, when I get new silica it goes in a pan of distilled water for 30 mins of boiling, then throw out the water and add more distilled water and boil again. I put it in a small toaster oven for a while till dry, cause im inpatient. Then as I use it, I torch the hell out of it, not with a lighter but some sort of high temp butane or propane flame, doenst need to be giant work torch, even those butane lighters from 711, blue flame is the need. Just torch it up and down, let it get sort of orange and then you will have a clean taste experience. This also lets you know that the silica you got is safe. If it cant handle torching it should not be used for vaping.

I found all this from trial and error and reading all the threads on ECF. I have tried ss mesh and for me it was not something worth the extra work. Im not into TH and real hot vape, so it was too much for me. SS genesis types changed my favorite juices too much. I like the way a good silica RB tank works for me. There are a few to choose from; Vivi Nova ( some say its not a true RB) or Stardust Kanger types, then you have the high end silica RAs like Svoemestros, Odysseus, its a high jump though as silica types are at the moment not as popular as the genesis types. Nothing wrong with genesis, but it entails much more trial and error for some.

The Svoemestro and Odysseus are very expensive and Ody is almost impossible unless bought in the classifieds, but again its a lot of money to see if it works for you. GG now has the Ithaca , the new and improved atty ( almost 200.00) Fortunately now there is the Terminator, a clone of the Odysseus. Its a great way to see if that is for you. It is extremely well made and easier than Vivi Novas to work with a build. No leaks if set up correctly. Like all things , there is a learning curve, but relatively not much more than a carto tank set up.

THe penelope and the Odysseus are superior atomizers, will last forever , built with the best stainless steel etc, The terminator will last a long long time, its quality is close to the GG products. The performance equal. Look around, there are a lot of choices, ask questions and ask for specifics so you get the whole picture with no surprises after you get the item.

I agree with anavidfan, if properly done a good silica setup is hard to beat. The secret is the torch and not only the wick but the wire too. I don't boil my wicks but I torch them real good. Also I use wick from COV that Imeo sends. I rarely fire up the genny's just because I prefer the vape from proper silica wicks. I use Pheonix clones, IGO-L's, A7, Odys, and traded my Penelope for a Spheroid. I think the Spheroid will give just about any atty a run for its money. Probably the best flavor and easiest to setup and use. They engineered some magic into that thing. I've got a Dripper Pro on order and can't wait to try it, I passed on the Z Atty Pro in favor of silica. For $20 at COV you can get a Pheonix clone and a DiD clone (COV Gen 1) and decide for yourself which you prefer. Use "big buyer" for 10% off. Also you can mix and match and use SS mesh in the Pheonix or silica in the genny. It's all a matter of which works best for you.

heres a question for you Unloaded, I just got in a genesis or silica type of atty. I almost forgot about till a few week ago, I came in today. I really want to use it with a silica wick, not mesh. Is there a video or tutorial to do this? I guess that I will only be using kanthal and no non-resistance. I have 30, 32, and 34 kanthal. I supose I have to wrap the silica around an make some sort of bow shaped top knot and let a let a strand go down the hole into the tank. If you can suggest , please let me know sense you used silica in the genny.

I've used silica in my Scubagen, it uses a U shaped wick so was pretty easy to do. If the atty only has a hole for one wick I,d cut it about same length a SS. Might need to put a needle in it so it'd be stiff enough to wrap the coil. Once it's wrapped the coil will hold it in place. I use a lot of 3.5mm wick, it's stiff enough to wrap by itself, just gotta make sure the hole it atty is big enough.
