Greetings everyone. A wise man once said "Get the hell off my lawn!", but I think that epic tale will have to wait.

I am a relatively new vape-r, and was hoping to find some brains to pick about the more specific terminology used in this community, and possibly rectify a recent issue with my rig.

I am currently using a Koopor Mini Box and a Herakles sub-tank. It is my first rig and up until just a while ago, it has been amazing. I've been going pretty heavy for a couple weeks now, and I noticed that the flavor of my juice was getting quite dull. I disassembled the tank and pulled the coil, and noticed that the cotton was quite dark compared to the new ones, and proceeded to make sure the ring was in place before I inserted the new coil and tightened it as far as I could with just my fingers. After refilling my tank and screwing it back together, I turned it back over (My Herakles is bottom-filled), and made sure the tank didn't leak before I screwed it back on the box.

However, ever since I changed the coil the tank has been spitting, if I'm using the term correctly. In the middle of a toke, I'm hearing what I can only describe bubbling, and I've practically inhaled a few little drops of juice. Possibly unrelated, I've noticed my clouds are far thinner than before I changed the coil.

If anyone feels compelled to enlighten me, be my guest. I'd love to rectify the problem.

Normal.

Probably over the couple weeks you have been vaping you have gradually adjusted the power as the coil changed.

Now with the fresh coil you need to start over: start low watts and move up gradually.
The fresh coil will take a little bit to break in.
It needs to get primed up; you might flood it at first, in which case it just needs to vape a bit.

I've noticed that my box has asked me if I'm using the same coil or a new one, and I chose 'New' after I swapped them. Perhaps it's an automatic process on the box's part?

That's in variable temperature mode.

You need to lock in the resistance when putting in a new coil.

During usage in temperature mode, the typical nickel coil will almost double in ohms.
You need to tell the mod when the coil is at room temperature as a way for the mod to calibrate so as to report temperature correctly. This is called locking the resistance.

And what is the endgame for locking the resistance? Ultimately what does it do?

It is normal when you are changing your coil on most of the newer mods for the screen to come up and ask if it is new or the same coil. As log as you are in wattage mode you don't need to lock in the resistance f the coil, that is only for temp control coils. If your mod supports temp control as in Ni200, Titanium or Ti , and stainless steel or SS316 or ss314, can't remember off hand. If you are gonna do temp control, when the screen comes yes it is new coil, then you want to lock in the resistance of the coil. Make sure when you do that the coil that is in your tank is at room temp. Locking in the resistance will ensure that the resistance of your coil will not fluctuate thereby making your vaping experience a hell of a lot better.
As long as you are using regular Kanthal coils there isn't much you really need to do, but there are a few thing to keep in mind. Number 1 when changing coils putting that first coil in, make sure it is secure, don't over tighten but you wanna make sure that the coil won't come loose. Also, when you are changing coils or putting that first coil into a new tank, when you go to fill the tank make sure you prime the coil as well, other wise you may get a dry hit and it just may ruin the coil resulting in having to replace that new coil, with a newer coil. It doesn't take a lot to prime the coil....a few drops 5 or 6 and I go that next step and dab some juice on the holes or slits that are around the outside of the coil. If you have a good vape shop in your town, if you have ANY questions drop in and ask them, they are usually more than happy to assit new vapers.

These notes generally remain in place but can be removed or modified by author/Admin/Moderators depending.

what is a sticky conversation
Moderators and administrators can make a conversation “sticky.” A sticky conversation remains at the top of the discussion area, regardless of how the board is currently sorted.
Re: Make a Conversation Sticky | IT Connect

No vape shops here to ask questions of, to my disappointment.
Might try reading/e mailing/phoning and becoming familiar with Charles (One of few real experts in vaping) in your part of the world. Can PM me if need be.

if you use pre bought coils in tanks then simply prime them ( put juice on them after installing where the cotton is visible/where the juice wicks into the coil ) then fill the tank. idk about you but when my things start to bubble usually it's because something is flooded and I easily fix it by vaping at a higher wattage to get rid of it and then turning it back down to the setting I want. sucking too hard can also cause this.

as for thinner clouds if I recall VG is what makes the clouds thicker and if you want thicker clouds via appearance using say a 50/50 mix you would likely try to up the wattage so it heats up faster or take longer hits as I find it when I vape my 70 vg/30pg blend at 40watts for 3 seconds vs 7 seconds the 7seconds obviously gives off more vapor and thus makes the clouds look thicker vs the 3second hit. so simply try taking longer hits or up your wattage. could also be wicking issues. I used a aspire triton tank before and the pre made coils I bought were horrible they never wicked good enough and would often burn out within a day or 2 at the most.

This is why i dropped tanks that use premade coils.

Some coils have too little wicking and they pop and spit of flood.

If there is too much sick you get Dry hits.

That is why i started building RDAs and RTAs just so i could get a consistent vape.
