Testing New Juices

Of course...you could always just make a 808 atty for dripping....however it will take at least 30 seconds and an investment in some rather unique tooling. But if you are willing to spend the time and money you can try these 2 methods to make a drip-style 808 atty.

Equipment Needed:
1 Tweezers or needle nose pliers
Jumbo Paperclip or Large Sewing Needle
1 V4L Cartomizer (Wow or Cool Cart)

Fold out a Jumbo Paperclip or take a large sewing needle and insert it between the wick tube and the polyfill material and apply pressure to the polyfill pushing it towards the inside wall of the carto housing in a back and forth motion for about a minute.

This will break the polyfill material away from the wicking tube, then carefully remove with the tweezers. It's similar to removing all the Papertowels from the inner cardboard dowel. This will leave the wicking tube and wicking material in place.........your own custom 808 atty for dripping.

A quicker method:
Grab the polyfill material with a pair of needle nose pliers and in forceful pull, remove the polyfill material. Just make sure you grab the opposing end form where the ground wire is located....this method works about 60% of the time. However, it does fail and when it does you end up yanking out the atomizer....hehehe.

Perhaps I should just do a video on this....

Awesome idea, Snow! Thanks! (About the "mod" not the video. Although a video wouldn't be a bad idea either!)

I prefer the lr 510 because it will get hotter faster. Maybe that's because what I look for when testing juices is vapor production with a short draw. I have found I'm much more satisfied with a good 2-3 second draw than I am trying to get a 7-8 second draw to get the same amount of vapor.

that part i agree with as far as i go for feeling satisfied with the nic

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I managed the first method on my first try only to discover that the wicking material had been burned on my last fill anyway. Then I wasted 3 cartos with polyfill that I swear was hydrogen-bonded to the freaking wicking material! I tried SO hard to separate the two. I failed. Ugh. I give up.

Good question Whistles! The key is you don't turn the Carto upside down or raise the battery end higher than the Cartomizer right after applying the droplets. Remember....this is for dripping so you only apply 2-3 drops max. Now after you vape it down a little 6-8 draws most of the juice gets resiny (is that a word....you probably know what I mean) at the bottom of the Carto and soaks into the wicking material. At that point you don't need to worry so much about leaking.

I'll see if I can pull a video together by the end of the weekend, I have a few projects I'm working on. :2cool:

Awesome!!! This should be a fun one to try this weekend... I have a Doc Pepper that isn't burned I can rip that one apart and play a bit.... I bet the flavor is strong via this method

Here is a vid I found on modding V4L cartos for dripping. It's not from our fabulous Snow and he may have a different view point or better way, etc. But here it is....

Mod A V4L Carto

I tried Snow's suggestion using needle-nose pliers and pulling the filler out, it works perfectly!! :banana:THANKS Snow! :headbang: You rock!!

That video is pretty spot on although you really don't need to place filler back into the Carto to prevent any leaking from the bottom of the Cartomizer.

The Metal Air Wick Tube extends up about a 1/2 inch from the Carto Base. Every Carto has the following: An outer layer of Polyfill, Wicking Material, then the Wick Tube itself. The Wicking material already coats the bottom of the Carto base....so wicking is not an issue since you are just removing the Polyfill.

Let me show you what I mean:

‪Vapor4life Tips, Tricks & Fixes for Cartomizers‬‏ - YouTube (3:40 mark)

Now, keep in mind....you are dripping...so you don't want put anything more than just a few 2-3 drops in at a time, then vape them down. Those 2-3 drops will give you about 8-12 good draws, depending on how long and hard you draw. I generally vape with long slow measured draw for about 7-8 seconds.

Anything more then 2-3 drops will lead to over-saturating of the wicking material which may lead to poor or no performance. Should this happen, toss the Carto on a Passthrough, the extra voltage will bring it back to life by steaming off the excess juice. It will also make for a great vape hit so-to-speak.

Now I have never done this with 100% VG juices so I don't know if the results are the same as some juices can be very thick compared to others. I would guess that everything would be the same other than you might be able to get a few more draws since VG generally last longer. That is to say it doesn't steam/vape out as quickly as a PG/VG blend.

Kris ~ It was easier with a new cart. Although it is also do'able with a used one, it is harder to get the filler out. I tried a uncleaned used one, sticky sticky. A cleaned used one may not be as hard, IDK.

(And slightly OT, what I thought was a spent cart...that thing had quite a bit of juice left in it.)

Personally I would only use a new Carto if I had no other choice. Better to take a cleaned used Carto to mod as an atomizer since they won't last longer than a couple of days. Of course I have never attempted to clean out a converted cartomizer, I just tossed it and made another one. I also think it's a little easier to do this trick with a Wow Cartos since Cool Carts tend to have much tighter wrapping.

I only use this trick for testing sampler juices. Outside of doing the video I haven't modded a Carto for tail piping in 10 months.

I like the idea here of modding V4L carts, it's easy & good to know how. I did however get a few 901 atty's for my V4L batts for when I want a single vape session of sum-sum-thing a lil diff on occasion. Drip it, clean my atty, and go back to my norm of filling carts with my rotation juices. I'm trying a lot of new custom juices right now finding my sweet spot. So this works for me atm. This too could change. I am looking at tanks too...so we shall see. Everyone has to tweak & find what works for them. :)
