Anyone know of any tests on atomizers for lead solder? I had a very bad experience trying out electronic cigarettes for the first time, with symptoms very similar to lead poisoning. I'm not saying it was this (it could be an allergy to PG or something else in e-liquid) but lead solder would be a very bad thing to have in an atomizer wouldn't it?

One of the fine old regulars did tests on a variety of atomisers including the paint. There was no lead in any of them. If your having a reaction try using either just plain vg or pg and see if you still have it. Consider seeing a doctor to,it could be something else.

Thanks ckc for the reassuring news about the lead tests, so I guess we can exclude lead as a possible cause. I would love to try just the PG or VG alone (with no nicotine even) just to see if that is what caused the bad reaction, but it was so unpleasant and has lasted so long, I am afraid to try it again. This is 5th day after stopping e-cigs, which I tried for just one day, and I am still feeling really bad, although not as bad as over the first few days. I know it is the e-cigs because I have this persistent taste of e-liquid in my mouth and even food and drink (especially alcoholic drink) tastes of it. Any ideas anyone?

Scott have you looked in on the Health and Safety part of this Forum?

Health, Safety and E-Smoking

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a bad reaction to the Vaping. Maybe something in there will be helpful to you.

How many cigs did/do you smoke?

I smoked about 40 hand made rollies a day, so I was used to a lot of nicotine in the blood (in other words I think we can rule out OD'ing on nicotine). In any case I only had about 15 good puffs of the e-cig all day. The sad thing is I wasn't even tempted to have a regular cigarette, which is probably the easiest day I have ever had trying giving up smoking :) Unfortunately, the after effects were dreadful. I will check out the Health and Safety part of the forum to see if that can shed any light on it.

Hey there Scott.

Not saying you're wrong about nic OD, but just so you know...

Just because you were a heavy smoker doesn't mean a high nic strength is right for you.

There's a 15-a-day ultra light smoker here who uses 24mg, and a 2-pack-a-day fullt-flavor smoker who uses 6mg.

It's strange, but it seems like the nicotine strength a person needs doesn't always correlate to how they smoked. Personally, I smoked 30-a-day hand-made rollies, and 18mg is as high as I can go.

You can get straight VG and straight PG cheap - about 4 bucks for 120ml of either one.

If neither of those make you react, then oettinger brings up an interesting point about coloring.

Thanks for the advice Mistress Nomad. The strength I was using was 36 mg, which I agree is strong, but since nicotine is excreted fairly quickly from the body and I only had a few good puffs on the e-cig anyway, I would not expect to be suffering from the effects 5 days later. As I said, I am afraid to try it again, but I am so committed to giving up smoking (and I think e-cigs are a nice way to do it - or should be:) that I may just try the straight PG juice to see what happens. If it is OK I will then try some low dose nicotine juices with no flavourings.
