TFV4 coil discussions

I'm really glad you started a thread for this, I've had the tfv4 mini for a couple of months now and I have mixed feelings for about these coils. I've tried the C2, T3, S6 and the Q4, and non of them lasted me longer than a week if I was lucky. Most of them lasted me 3 days at about 300 puffs a day. It may have something to do with the juice I was using (Muffin man by One Hit Wonder) but even with thinner juice the taste varied every day. The Q4 was definitely my favorite for best flavor but I would only get about 3 days out of them. Next would be the S6 but I've had two duds in two packs I bought on separate occasions. The nickel coils take such a long time to heat up and the flavor just isn't as good. The rest of the coils just left me wanting more.

I have also tried building on the R2 and the RCA which I ultimately gave up on. I have tried over a dozen times to build on the R2, and each time it would taste great for the first two puffs but the wicks wouldn't stay wet (giggety). The Rca broke the third time I tried building on it, the peek insulator and post is no longer fully attached to the base. I wish I could say I dropped it or man handled it but I honestly have no idea how it happened. Regardless how good the RBAs are when wicked properly, it should be easier to do so with fewer issues. I bought two velocity clones to satisfy my building needs. I'm sure not everyone agrees, but it's more enjoyable to me.

Overall, this tank and it's coils are too expensive for me for every day usage. The coils are so hit or miss for me, it is not worth the headache. I really wanted to love the coils but they weren't consistent enough to feel confident that I was gonna have a good vape for breaks at work.

I bought a crown tank which just arrived three days ago and the flavor is just as good as the tfv4 mini on a good day. They are a fraction of the cost of the tfv4 coils and are notorious for lasting for a long time, I am hoping my experience with them will be better. An Aromamizer may end up replacing both of these tanks though.

Ouch! I am sorry to hear that this tank is not working out for you. It reminds me of the story of my Subtank mini and after reading so many people being happy with it, I am still hanging on it. Hopefully it will be solved one day soon.

Currently, I am vaping on the R2 build I did late last night. Even after some rewicking, it seem to not saturate juice fast enough so I gonna work around it a bit more.

So I built the R 1 with a .48 SS coil and had been having troubles with the wicking. Found where is was best to cut the wick at a 45 degree angle.laying the point in the channel.
It seem to be working for me. How does everyone else wick yours.

People having wicking issues on the R2. Here's a pic of what works for me (slightly shorter wicks than this, actually, as this pic was 3 builds ago, and I trim wicks a few mm shorter than this now and has been great (EDIT: SEE A FEW POSTS DOWN).
Wicks slightly shorter than this, so that just a little bit is lying in the channels, just barely long enough to reach the channel.

The pancake method was a horrible leaking mess on this tank. Perfecting the above method has had excellent results on this tank though, again trimming wicks still slightly shorter than shown above.

My TFV4 Mini is on the way, and I truly hope I can enjoy it.

I know there's a big difference in how coils can work. The Kanger HOCC's were horrible when they first came out - the tiny wicking hole caused a horrible rubber taste above 20-25w's (just tried one a couple days ago to re-test and YUCK >.<). Then they drilled the holes a little bigger and it slightly improved.

Then they came out with the VOCC's. A big improvement, 30w's, no rubber taste unless it was pushed to 40w. Then they came out with the new Clapton's. The Claptons are fantastic for Kanger, 40w+, no hint of a rubber taste (requires MAX VG though or else it spits like a camel) and the wicking holes are HUGE - triple the original coils.

Sometimes it takes a company months upon months of re-inventing just to improve one single coil. Hopefully the Smok coils are well tested.

As I have both full and mini size TFV4 I have acquired some coils for them. Did a search here but could not find any good thread/discussions for all the coils available. So I thought, why not create one dedicated to TFV4 coils.

There are 15, yes 15 coil types for the TFV4 tanks.

So far, I have used a few of the coils, especially T3 and Q4. I like them both but think I would rate Q4 better as the tank is not getting that hot so fast.
Did use the T2 and CLP2 but both of them did not produce enough vapor/flavor so I ditched them.
Have the S6 coil but not yet tried it.
Also have the R2 RBA but not yet built Ni coil for it.
Just ordered the new T4 and R3

Wondering if any of you tried the R3 RBA? It has an innovative deck for 3 coils and I am thinking either clapton or nickel.

How long did the T3 and Q4 coils last for you? I have had my T3 past the 150 ml mark using at 60W with Max VG. FOr the Q4 I am presently using it nearing the 100ml mark at 70W with max VG.

My T3 deck I've had past the 150ml Mark and it's still gone strong with good flavor. I'm currently vaping the t4 now and am past the 100ml Mark as well and not doing too bad on taste as well. Just bought the t6 but haven't put it in yet I can't wait to Chuck the cloudswith that bad boy

I have the full size TFV4 and I use the single coil rba on it (i love the triple coil though). I build it using twisted Kantian with 4 strands at 3.5 mm. This gives me about .6 ohms and awesome flavor and clouds. I love this tank.

I wicked my single coil and got nothing but dry hits tho I think I used to much cotton or plugged up the juice holes.. idk got ...... off and just threw my quad coil in it for work and been vaping on that since. I want to try the single but I put it on my tugboat 65 watt mod and it didn't for it do you have any clue what happened

I wick the single coil and cut the cotton just at the end of the channels on the sides that lead to the juice holes....it does sound like you put too much in and it's not wicking properly.

The single rba wouldn't fire on my tugboat unregulated 65 watt mod but
It fires the triple, quad so it should've fired the single. Do you have any idea what happened like I said I just tried it once after getting dry hits and threw my quad in it and went to work. I would like to figure this out and vape on the single on my tugboat instead of on my Tesla 200 watt tc??

All I can think of is check your pin in the tugboat and see if it's up enough to make contact with the atty. That is if it is movable. I have not used one before. Also check to see if the coil didn't short out (burn one of the leads attached to the posts) or see if the contacts are tight on the posts.

The same tank with a current deck in it fires just fine and the tank with the single deck fired on my Tesla but not on my tugboat?? I'm stumped and the pin on the tfv4 tank isn't adjustable right?? Other than that idk what else it could be because like I said every other deck I have for that tank fires great.

Hmmmm.....that is a stumper...the pin isn't adjustable to my knowledge...hopefully someone else may have an answer for you...sorry about that.

Rewicked the R2 earlier today. Vaping great!
Wicked with just a little bit directed into the channels, but all formed neatly towards the channels, encloses nicely around channel area once the coils are capped, so no leaking.
Can use those outer posts as a decent guide for wick length, actually..

SMOK TFV4 TF-T8 Octuple Fused Clapton Coils will be out soon. Sweet Vapes has them listed but no price yet. Out of all of them I like the quad then the Clapton dual. The quad just has more vapor but not more flavor to me.

Howdy? It has been a while since last.
Wanted to let you know that i am STILL at the same Q4 coil since last time. It is at the 200ml mark and still going strong. Still the same good flavor and vapor. Amazing........
DIY Strawberry/vanilla mix, max VG, 0 (zero) nic. all the way.
