I keep forgetting about that quad coil... Might have to give it a go, this tank seems less problematic than the Clieto

When I was waiting for mine to ship I ordered a box of the X4 coils for stock and that is what I started with right from the get go. I guess I figured I would start in the middle? I don't really know why but it was good decision.

My BB is reading all wrong, so I dont know if its the bottom section, 510 pin, or I just happened to buy 3 bad coils in a row, but looks like im going to have to either toss it in the drawer.

I liked the q2 coils the best, the x4 and t8 were not far behind, but they were a tighter draw, which is fine, but I like more wide open. I ran the q2/x4 @ around 45 watts, the t8 around 60

Don't know what to tell you on the BB. What I would do is hang on to those "bad" coils and see how they behave in the BBB. No sense wasting coils that might really be fine as well. Did you try contacting VapeNW to see if they would exchange for you?

I can't keep track of their coil designation system. I do know I like the 0.4 ohm coil that came with the BB. I have the 0.15 ohm that comes with the BBB in place, and it's a nice vape, but I prefer the higher ohm just to not run through juice as fast. I'm not really into giant clouds.

Haven't contacted them yet, but I'm gonna steal the BBB from the girlfriend and try it in there to see if its the coil or tank. The .4 ohm is the q2, and just like you I found the flavor/vapor/longevity to be my favorite of the bunch..

Called up VapeNW but they couldn't do anything about the Tank, but suggested I contact MadVapes, as they are a main Source for SMOK warranty in the USA. Sooo, Called madvapes , told them the issue, and they asked me what color it was, took down my info, and will be sending me a new BB bottom section at no charge.

So... Hopefully that fixes the issue

Nice. If the coils work in the BBB, the only other point of failure is in the base or the 510 connector on your mod. You already know the mod is good, so the base replacement should do it for you. Hopefully.

yep! Tried the .15 x4 coil in the BBB, as well as the .4 q2 ( same coils that were reading wrong in the BB tank )

The .15 x4 read .171 and while hot, was no higher than .177..

The .4 q2 read .411, and while hot read .421

This isn't right. The Q2 is the tightest draw in the line of coils with the smallest air holes. The T8 pumps out clouds without any effort at all but lacks taste like the others. The X4 has alot less pull effort than the Q2 but loads more flavor without getting hot. If you are getting completely opposite effects as above you have to be on a bad mod. Something definitely isn't right. I could breath out of the X4 and T8 if my nose was clogged and no fluid in the tank it's so open.

Most manufacters of coils say +/- 0.05 on ohms. So a .15 can read up to .20 and still be in factory speck. The .17 is what mine read about 99% of the time, so your readings are good. I guess all tanks made have some bad ones in the batch. I've yet to read a review on a tank that someone didn't at least have 1 bad tank. No matter what brand, guess since they are technically cheap and most companies with bad quality control, it's the nature of the beast I guess

The q2 is the single large diameter coil the x4 t6 etc have 2 3, 4 smaller barrels they are way tighter of a draw compared to the q2

damn it... i had to try that quad... 3ml is so not enough...
I went thru my single coil that came with kit in 5 days. Only vaping at 40 watts too. Not the only mod I'm using either. 3 mls, NOT enough is right. Im about to throw in the quarks cuz it's all I've got for that tank right now, I know I'll go thru the juice like crazy. Ugh. For the last two years I've used the same tank and the same RBA deck and my same build and been very happy with it. I'd love to keep using this alien however I want to do my Kanthal build and it I'm trying to find out if it even is compatible with kanthal? I know I'm going to upgrade to the big beast or whatever it's called so I can get the 6ml tank, rba too. I'm only going to do it if I know I can use Kanthal with this mod

All the Smok coils are Kanthal. they don't offer anything else. Any Kanthal build will work fine on your Alien in wattage mode. On the Smok coils I have found a really slow break in may help those factory coils last way longer. I've gotten several weeks out o f one coil that way.

I keep reading here from multiple people that Smok does not make TC-capable coils, yet here is a photo of a box of V8 BABY X4 coils I have here:

ouXNY9i.jpg

Now I don't know what kind of SS "Stainless 000" is (neither does steam engine, it seems) and therefore what its precise TCR should be, but TC mode on the G-PRIV using these coils is not kicking me out.

So one of two things is true:

- You guys are right, the sticker is wrong and the G-PRIV is buggy (ahem).
- Smok does make Stainless coils that are TC capable.

I would be willing to bet that the "SS" is referring to the materials used to make the coil housing, not the actual coil itself.

There have been a lot of articles written and videos made on the topic of SMOK not having any TC usable coils for their tanks. If SMOK actually did make a stainless steel coil you would see at least 7 different threads about it instantly.

Admittedly I'm no vaping veteran so I have a question: is it common for manufacturers to mention the material used for the housing and stay silent about the coil? (I realize many don't mention either, but if they're going to mention only one of the two, the housing seems pretty pointless). If this is what is going on then it's downright misleading, seeing as this is mentioned right next to the coil resistance... (which clearly is not that of the housing ;P).

The other thing that bothers me is why do those coil not get kicked out of TC mode if they are kanthal, when my kanthal rba builds correctly cause the mod to do so?

I'm fairly new to vaping, and love the Baby Beast. Based on everything I've been reading here, I ordered some X4's. Well, this morning, a bad e-juice ruined my coil, and I dropped the pyrex tube. I'm only two months without a cigarette and my wife still smokes. Lol so I ran to the local vape shop, while I was there, I figured I'd buy them there, now. They were out. The common ones yes, not the X4.

BUT they had the M2's ....since I have a new mod with temp control, and auto sense the coil type, I grabbed them. WOW. I love these. Plugged it into my new iJoy Captain PD270, it automatically wanted to run it in temp control, as an M2 coil. Man, still playing with the mods settings but right now, running an 80/20 mix, 3mg nicotine, mod set to 35 watts and 350° F , Baby Beast airflow wide open...and I get thick huge clouds, great taste, and no matter how hard or long I puff, it's consistently cool as a cucumber.

So far, unless the x4 blows me away, the M2 on temp control is my coil of choice.
