Hi everybody, I first want to thank you all for being here and sharing all that you've learned. I've been smoke free for just over 3 months now and I have my hardware needs pretty much set. My next step I would like to try is DIY, mainly for the cost savings but also for the hobby. I have read a lot of posts over the last few weeks on this sub-forum and watched some videos and have a good idea of my first shopping list.

The one question I have that I haven't seen brought up is what do you all use to taste test your recipes? At the moment, all I have are standard Evods and an Aerotank with some VV batteries. I'm thinking I want to get at least a couple of bridgeless atomizers, maybe 1.8-2.0 ohm. I've seen them for $5.00 around the net. Would this be a good idea or do you have another?

Thank you

DIY is cheap enough. I just fill the tank I have. Even if I hate the flavor and have to dump it it is less then 10c

Well, that's true enough. I guess I was thinking that using a little atty would be good because you wouldn't get any residual flavors from different juices? And I'm going to be mainly mixing tobacco juices, which I've learned need long steep times. So I could test them with just a few drops in an atomizer. Does anyone have any preferences or a good supplier? I like to use Discount Vapors but the one's that he has look a little cheapo. Do they last very long?

Some people use bridgeless attys. I first used some attys from the old days then tried ripping the filler out of some cartos. I then got an A6 dripper for around $7 and that works better but the small size is hard to coil and wick plus you can only get a few drops in at a time.

20+mm drippers are all over the USA for $10-15 and work fine with single coils. You will spend less than $20 for a couple of sizes of kanthal, cotton or rayon for wick, and screwdrivers or drill bits for mandrels.

OK, that sounds like an option I need to look into also. Do you mean something like this? $5.43 Patriot Style Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I wouldn't buy from Fast Tech but look around for something similar here. I didn't know you could get an RBA so cheap. Thank you...now I have to research RBA's!!

I have a few old school Joyetech atomizers from the eGo back when it used cartridges. Need a drip tip or empty cartridge on it or you might burn your lips. No wick replacement, rinse and dry burn with ease, 3 drops right on the coil gives you enough vapor for quick testing. Probably the least elegant solution out there, but I have tried really hard to kill these things with rinsing and dry burning and they keep working. Something similar to this, but without the vendor branding:
Joye 510 Atomizer

[edit] Mods: My link is broken, hovering over it gives, "This link changed by ECF." I wonder why? Litecig is a registered supplier, as far as I know. Is there something wrong with the atomizer?

I'd recommend taking a look at the $8.xx Veritas 1 to 1. It's been getting (mostly) good reviews plus it holds enough that you'll probably enjoy it some in the evenings along with your regular gear. Not as easy to build as some designs but not hard for a single horizontal coil which is all it needs any way.

If you want to stay with just a simple dripper just for tasting, search FT for 'rta'. Quite a bit to wade through, but you can read the reviews and figure out what you want. For example, the rta you linked to has a very small air hole, which you may or may not like, but you can find some small air hole attys for less. If you're going to pay that much, you can probably find adjustable air flow for about the same money.

If you do order from FT, I'd recommend spending a couple extra dollars for tracking. Shipping is getting pretty busy over there this time of year. If you opt for the free shipping it goes out standby which can sometimes take a while. With tracking, it's usually about 2 weeks. Good luck.

Oh, and by the way, as mentioned above, lots of folks use the bridgeless 510 atty you linked to but just be aware that it has a fairly tight draw as well.

I bought a Catepillar for 9 bucks or something that I can put a single coil in and just put a bit of Rayon under the coil for tasting. There are tons of inexpensive easy to build drippers out there...I went for something that had AFC and the coil sat close to the deck so I could swap out the wick quickly...

That's the same one i use,i have 3 of those.Like mentioned the air holes are small, but they can be opened up a bit pretty easy,i used a diamond point dremel bit to open them a little and it's perfect now. Also, you can find that one on ebay for a bit over $8.

You hit the nail right on the head with your selection. Inexpensive and works great. You can even put a little ball of cotton in and then disguard it with each new test. Drippers also work very well.

thanks everyone, all good info in a friendly environment. I love this place! :D

There are no snobs here, and there is no such thing as a stupid question. Except perhaps, "Tell me how to make juice." When someone asks that, without any specifics, it is obvious they have not done any of their homework, and they might get a couple of snippy responses, as well as pointed to a bunch of recommended reading.

And I always though the stupid question was the question that wasn't asked.

You are right. But there are one or two that can come across as lazy and possibly annoying. Like when someone basically says, "I don't have time for all of that reading. I want someone to tell me everything I need to know in a few short sentences, so I can become a master mixer by this afternoon."
