I'm new to vaping (just two and a half weeks) and I live in Oregon. I'm appalled by what our attorney general is doing here. It's right up there with the seven year old being fined $500 for opening a lemonade stand last week. Yes, that was Oregon too!

I love having this alternative to cigarettes and if it weren't for the defective hardware we've been getting my husband and I would be completely off the analogs. I'm hopeful that will happen soon and I can't believe the unethical tactics of the politicians here.

Anyway, the real reason for this post is just to thank the folks from CASAA and this forum who are supporting our right to make adult choices. I read some very good posts from them on one of our local TV station websites. They had to deal with some real crazies and did it with class, intelligence and logic. Great Job!

I was on the OR AG's website and he does not even have the "hang lows" to have an email address to write to. The OR Senators and Congressmen have email addresses. What does that tell you about this ignorant human. They just have not figured out how to tax them yet. As soon as they do that, the ban will get lifted. Until then we just order online.

Welcome sunlessinOR. We in CASAA are glad to be of help. You're right about the crazies. I'm sure you noticed that when they could not back up what they said with any facts, data, or research, they resorted to insults.

You will find a lot of information here on ECF as well as on casaa.org. A couple of other sites you should check out include:

Tobaccoharmreduction.org
Tobacco Truth
The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary

If you have a chance to get together with other vapers, even if you have to drive a bit, do so. It will give you the opprortunity to learn more about techniques and equipment and to make some new friends.

I am over here in Wilsonville.

Ah...not too far from me, nice to know I'm not alone with this ban thing going on...Doesn't it just frustrate you the way the news is handling this? Usual headline "Oregon Bans Electronic Cigarettes".....this is so misleading. So for us e cig users, I suppose we're gonna get a bunch of dirty "E cig criminal" looks :sneaky: from the wrongly informed public.

Oh well...Vape on!

Welcome to the ECF, Nice 2 see other Oregonians out there. Yes we do live in a state with an AG that doesn't have ANY idea at all what this does for peoples lives. I've been vaping for 6 months now and have had no problems getting supplies from out of state. Had just started by buying a starter kit from my local Tobacconist (Random branded M404), and one week everything is cool next week crap like "Oh yeah those are banned" and "Yeah we don't carry that anymore we got fined". ????!!! For WHAT?, By WHO?, no answers just vague reasons. As far as I can tell it is a retail only ban ATM, so order online in bulk would be my advice to you.

I am itching to move to coastal Oregon so bad I'm about to break out in a rash. Yours is not the first I've heard of the unfortunate attitude there toward vaping. Very sorry to know this. And, it doesn't seem to fit in with the solidly blue state. What gives there?

It won't discourage me from my goal, in any case. Other things are obstacles though.

What gets me is it's perfectly fine to sell cigs which are 100% known to kill and full of toxins and carcinogens yet not ok to sell something that is relatively harmless and allows many to completely quit cigs overnight. Now if only Ecig companies could come up with the big $ to bribe the lawmakers and FDA like the tobacco companies and big pharmaceuticals do they'd be completely legal in every state in every country overnight.

If you still see your Tobacconist, could you extract some more information from him or her? So far as I know, Oregon has not passed a statewide law baning sales. The AG sued SE and NJOY for making unfounded health claims about their products (so he claimed). NJOY agreed immediately to stop sales in Oregon, and the suit against SE was just settled. SE also agreed not to sell their products in Oregon.

A lawsuit against a particular company has no effect on other companies. So if Crown 7 (or some other major supplier) wanted to sell their product in Oregon, the lawsuit against SE does not affect their right to do so. They would, of course, risk becoming the target of AG Kroger's neat little legalized extortion racket. So my guess would be that until Kroger is out of office, all companies who market their product through retail outlets will avoid Oregon.

I can't understand how a lawsuit against product wholesalers could result in a retailer having to pay a fine. Can you find out what excuse was used to levy the fine and what government agency collected it?

There might be more going on in Oregon than is making the news.

Great link, Hellen. I'm copying this part here, straight from the Oregon DOJ:

DOJ has not banned electronic cigarettes. We are taking action against e-cig vendors who misrepresent the safety of these products.

The UTPA prohibits deceptive promotion of any product, including electronic cigarettes. Two of the products that DOJ investigated are e-cigarettes sold by Smoking Everywhere and NJOY.

The national distributors for both products were served with official Notice that the Attorney General believes their promotion of e-cigs violates the UTPA and they were offered an opportunity to avoid litigation by agreeing not sell e-cigs in Oregon until it is determined whether these products must be approved by FDA.

If electronic cigarettes do not need to be approved by FDA, the companies would be able to resuming selling e-cigs in Oregon so long as they possess evidence to support their promotional claims. Two vendors of electronic cigarettes – TA Travel Centers and Pilot Travel Centers – already signed such agreements.

Both NJOY and SMOKING EVERYWHERE have voluntarily agreed to stop doing business in Oregon while we try to negotiate a settlement. Although DOJ is looking at a number of e-cig products, thus far, we are only taking action against NJOY and Smoking Everywhere.”

*end*

What's interesting is that Kroger tried to make it sound as if his lawsuit had somehow turned into a state law, (Oregon Department of Justice - 2009 Media Release) but when "Smoky Jones" pressed the AG's office on the subject, the above response was sent.
