I just moved over to LR atomizers (510)
These are great.. i cant see how i liked the normal atomizers now.

I direct drip so when the atomizer is dry i get that burn atomizer taste quite a bit. I am concerned thats like burning metal. I know welding fumes are carcinogenic.. so it stands to reason that burning atomizer fumes cant be too good to inhale?

Also i would like to warn people.. i tried dry firing the new atomizer to get rid of the primer fluid.. and something popped.. and i got a tiny peice of red hot something in my eye which really hurts!

What you are tasting/smelling is most likely the last of the liquid burning off, so I don't think it is a concern. Your PV should not have enough power to 'weld' or to heat the metal to dangerous temps that would create metallic gases, unless you have a poorly configured mod. You are probably ruining your atty when you let it go dry, but I wouldn't panic about health issues.

OK
I agree with Eric... they do not get hot enough to create a metallic gas - that takes tremendous heat. For instance, IMO, your teflon pans are very dangerous if heated to a point where they provide gas.... But it takes a lot more heat than your small atty and battery could ever possibly generate...

BTW: Regarding teflon, this was on 60 mins. or some show a few years ago on this issue. The response was they are safe as long as "used as intended". Overheating them is a known health hazard... I am not a health nut, (obviously, I smoke, lol) ... but personally i went and bought all stainless pans after I saw that.

I have had that popping happen to me as well, so I stopped heating it that way....and as far as worrying about the health risks, well, gotta say, switching from analogs to this, well, which is the worser evil? really? LOL..I giggle as when I first started, that was my thought "oh, what are in the juices, what are the atomizers really made of..." yada yada yada, I'm over that now....LOL...I find that when I fill my carts, I push the filling down with the tip of the bottle, fill it, then tweeze out the filling more than average and put it in the atomizer, I usually have it out enough that it gets a great hit and stays that way for a while....much better than flushing it with the top of the cart or just a 'little' past the top of the cart....we all have different ways..all trial and error in this new venture! BUT 2 1/2 months and I'm loving my new 'habit'...hee hee

However, LR atty's have been known to give off radioactive emissions and de-ionization effects. This was a major problem for the astronauts during the lunar moon missions when they brought LR atty's with them, especially when they used drip tips. Of course, the no-gravity environment compounded this problem exponentially, so here on Earth you should be okay.
