So I've been having my new Provari in my hand for 4 days and can't even use it. I didn't realize I needed button top batteries and all I have are flat tops. This really sucks. Hopefully my batteries will be in today or tomorrow. I ordered some Efest 18490s. Normally I use sony vtc4 and vtc5 for my dripper. Any suggestions on the best button top 18500s?

Someone said that was a bad idea, that it might fry the circuit board or something...

Exactly. That is considered an unsafe battery practice. Adding magnets to flat top batteries to work in a Provari also voids the Provape warranty.

Crxess, I'm surprised that you as a veteran vaper would even suggest an unsafe battery practice to a novice vaper. :glare: Not in the best interest of the vaping community.

Look for this thread to be moved by a moderator to the "Not Adviseable" sub-forum because of your recommendation.

OP, the product page at Provape states at least four times that they recommend using only AW IMR batteries in the Provari. AW makes only button top batteries.

Sadly there is never enough information when selling mods.. resellers seem to assume you know every little tid bit about the product you are buying when in reality nearly nobody knows these things.. thats the one thing I hate about the vaping industry, there are so many things that are left out of descriptions as if they just want you to shutup and buy it and go through the same blood sweat and tears the last guy that bought one went through.. not sure where you bought yours or if they told you that you had to use button tops but this is based off what I generally see..

When it comes to vaping purchases I spend days upon days researching each and every mod I think about getting... I wanted, at some point in time, over 50 different mods that I haven't purchased. I eventually found atleast one or two big problems with those mods I didn't like.. after all of that I still only have one mech, one dripper, and hoping to be able to find a hana v3 full when the craze dies down..

Ok enough talk move this puppy to what not to do lol

In the instruction manual and often more than once on nearly every ProVari product page (emphasis by ProVape):

You must use batteries that have a positive button on the top. Flat top batteries will not work. Avoid using magnets on your batteries!.
We recommend only using AW IMR high drain batteries in your ProVari Mini
You must use batteries that have a positive button on the top. Flat top batteries will not work. Using magnets on top of your batteries will void the warranty.
Never use magnets with your batteries. This is very dangerous, and will void the warranty.

Well I've been watching reviews on and reading on the Provari for 2 months now, but somehow I missed the fact that I needed a button top. Also, I purchased directly from provape and saw they recommended their AW batteries and I just thought "nah, I've got plenty of efest 18500s." It's very frustrating to hold it in my hand and not be able to use it.

I was in the same boat as you were, when I first bought mine. Couldn't get the batteries, until the next day. Really bummed me out.

Hang in there, it will be worth the wait:)

Well every shop in town only carries flat tops so I order some from myvaporstore. It updated Saturday saying departed from rushing, new york. Hasn't updated yet today so I'm getting worried. Just in case I ordered some of the recommended AW batteries from RTD vapor today and I think they already shipped. So I should be covered either way and hopefully have some by tomorrow or Wednesday... :glare:

I have used the batteries, but I never felt good about it. Only did it for a few days till I got my button tops.

I like 500's more than 490's though personally.

Could you elaborate on your preference for the 500's? I did a bit of research and didn't find anything that would lead me to believe that one would be better than the other.

But that's why I ask, because if the 500's sit just a tad tighter in the Provari (maybe a hair longer in battery length) or have a slight amount more mAh capacity, I would totally pull the trigger on a couple. I haven't bothered to get the 18650 cap for my Provari because I love the form factor with the stock bottom cap. I don't much care for the look of the 18650 cap. That said, a black Provari mini with a polished 18490 cap or brass/gold one has a pretty slick look...

RTD only ships Priority. If you ordered today you will have them Wednesday. At least that's they way it's always worked for me.

Why is using magnets on batteries unsafe? Is there some reaction or something I'm unaware of?
Magnets CAN create added internal resistance to the circuit, causing potential problems...
Plus, a magnet can shift position, causing a poor connection....or, worse.....a total SHORT!!!8-o
My vote is AW IMR's from RTD....:thumb:
VAPE SAFE!!:D
Happy (vaping) Trails!
