Hi Might, If you have tried a dry burn to see if the atomizer is glows and still getting hot,
that would tell you if it is good. Sometimes the fluval gets against the atty, and taste horrible. Lots of folks here recommend boiling them. I bring a small amount of water in
a cup, bring to a boil and then throw the attys in to clean. I use a dab of baking soda
and a teas or so of cidar vinegar too. Blow out and use air dryer and should get rid of any tastes if they are still working. Hope this helps.

This is good advice, at least try boiling some distilled water, take the pot off the stove after the boil and let the atty sit for 15 minutes or so swishing it around with some tweezers every few minutes.

There's your problem right there. What possessed you to do this?

Soak them in denatured alcohol overnight and you might save them, but they're probably carbonized all to heck by now.

A lot of hard work and experimenting gave the Cola Method its reputation:

I'll admit I hadn't heard of it before this thread but you do know what happens when you burn sugar, right?

Fishops--You wanted to know where it came from, I supplied you the links, the Phosphoric Acid works, any sugar residue is rinsed clean before the atomizer is put back into play.

Watch the movie and read the threads as a lot of time, money, and effort went into it.

Please don't get me wrong, I seriously appreciate all the experimentation and cleverness that goes into figuring this stuff out. It's why I joined the board!

Soaking a heating element in sugary coke sets off my "common sense" alarm pretty heavily though. Even if you can get all the sugar out of the tiny nooks and crannies in the element itself, there's still the wick to consider. It just seems like it'll compound the problem over time, and there are hundreds of other solvents you could use instead.

If it works for you, please don't let me stop you.

I give my attys a water/alcohol enema to clean them, and so far so good.

4oz boiling water in a cup mixed with 1 dropper of rubbing alcohol. Soak 10 minutes and flush with a syringe. Soak another 10 and repeat. Transfer to a clean cup with just boiling water and flush. Blow thru from the cart end and let dry overnight. Clean as a whistle, no previous or introduced tastes and vapes like a charm.

Edit: I do this because I experiment with a lot of recipes and require clean attys to sample/drip with

4-5 MONTHS is a decent life for an atty tho mate - I'd give them a happy send off and get new ones.
Having said that - I thought one of mine (had all mine for 3 months with no issues) was dying just a few days ago, even wrote a little obituary for it (lol) but I washed it (I dont wash mine usually just blow out) under hot hot running water (figured the running part would swirl into those little places inside) then blew it out til my cheeks hurt from both ends (er..both ends of the atty...) and let it dry on apaper towel for 48 hours.
Now its back to normal - can be a bit fussy on the PT now but otherwise fine.

I don't use Coke, but sugar is water and alcohol soluble, by rinsing the atomizer out with water and/or alcohol you clear any sugar residue.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner + water and the dry burn. I have two atomizers with 7 months on them (part of a 3 atomizer rotation, so each has almost two months "continuous" use) and they're still at 2.3 ohms and work like new.
