Oh my goodness, such great stories! Here's my holiday story for your reading pleasure.
Picture it, Hot Springs Arkansas 1931. An adorable little curly haired, blue eyed, 10 year old girl named Dorothy is wishing and hoping for Santa to bring her a Patsy Doll for Christmas. Dorothy is the daughter of a single mother who works any job she can get to keep food on the table and heat in the house for her
three children. Well, Dorothy waits patiently for Christmas to come. Then, on Christmas Eve, she gets a toothache and gets up to tell Mommy her tooth hurts. She peeks in the living room and sees Mommy and her boyfriend setting out one toy for each of the children. Mommy is setting out a doll for Dorothy, but it isn't a Patsy Doll. So that year Dorothy learns that there is no Santa Claus and she doesn't get a Patsy Doll. In fact, she never got her Patsy Doll.
Flash forward to 2002. Dorothy is telling her granddaughter Danielle (me) the story about how, "all the little girls had Patsy Dolls. Beverly Jean had one, Marnette had one, Florence had one, all the little girls had one. But little Dorothy didn't have a Patsy Doll". So the granddaugher looks and looks and is able to find a Patsy Doll reproduction with two adorable little outfits, two cute bonnettes and even a cute little suitcase carrying case. So on Christmas Day 2002, Dorothy unwraps her Patsy Doll and is so happy she cries! 71 years later, cute little Dorothy gets her Patsy Doll.
I truly love getting people just the right gift and this has to be at the top of my list of the perfect gift. It was great to see that "little girl" so happy.
