Well slap me silly-
I bought a cheapo multimeter
and checked all my supplies - 14500's for my Icon and Tornado/ego batts
also a dozen or so LR atty's.
guess what - they are not all the same
some batteries fully charged are around 3.4v others are up to 4.2v
some LR atty's are at 1.7ohm and vary up to 2.3ohm
SO - use the lower voltage batteries with the lower ohm attys and lo and behold
everything works way better.
I even found a couple attys I thought were blown that were not - just needed a little soaking in some vodka for a couple hours
