I have an unusual solution to my 'stuck or hard to move door'!

A couple of nights ago I was folding clothes and vaping with my BB. Batts needed to be changed and the door was being a bugger. I grabbed a Bounce dryer sheet (only thing handy) and cleaned the tracks and the door. The door went in slick as a hot knife through butter!

Two days later it goes in and out with the same ease. I added a Bounce sheet to my vaping stuff!

AWESOME, klee! Now where else besides ECF would one find cleaning tips like this!! Gotta love the "accidental" things that happen in life!

Interesting ... Sounds alot like like the old trick of using soap to make drawer runners operate more smoothly. Creative!

Just thinking ahead here: Even if it is unscented, you might want to consider keeping it in a zip-lock baggie that seals VERY well. Otherwise it could have an interesting effect on the taste of any tanks, cartomizers, etc. that it is stored with.

Yup. Not good at all. In fact, I'd say your BB's days are numbered. Might as well sell it to me for parts now.

;)

Hah. I've gotta take some pictures for Doug. I couldn't do it earlier because of finals and all that, guess I'll be spending some time in Photoshop. Once those are done, then I'll just strip the remaining paint off lol.

This makes perfect since. I have been thinking about this issue, because I want a Billit Box. What I have come up with is that a form of electrolysis is occurring between the 2 dissimilar metals (alum. and SS). The alum. would then corrode and cause flaking. The flakes would transfer and stick to the SS ball preventing it from rolling smoothly in its socket. When you cleaned your Billit Box with the drier sheet 2 things happened. First it cleaned away the scale and lubed the track (wax in the sheet). Second the drier sheet has a component to cut down on static elect. building up in the clothes. That component should also help reduce the electrolysis from reoccurring. Great solution

and the expansion rate of aluminum will also play a part as temperature changes.

Coefficient of Thermal Expansion. Looked these up and a couple caveats: Bronze is mostly copper, but it's expansion will vary some depending on the type of bronze. I found aluminum-bronze. Here are relative expansions (higher number means greater expansion).

titanium 1.00
cast iron 1.21
steel 1.63
stainless 1.63
gold 1.65
bronze 1.88
copper 2.04
aluminum 2.73

I've been using NO-OX-ID A Special on my SS ball, door edges, and also on the threads of the brass ring. It was recommended for another mod I have, so I already had it handy. I've been using it on other mods wherever there are dissimilar metals in contact with each other. Here's a sort of description of what it was originally made for:

NO-OX-ID "A-SPECIAL" is the electrical contact grease of choice for new electrical installations and maintenance. NO-OX-ID is an electrically conductive grease that keeps metals free from rust and corrosion. This electrically conductive grease which has been used in the power industry for over 65 years to prevent corrosion in electrical connectors from low micro-power electronics to high voltage switchgear. NO-OX-ID electrical grease prevents the formation of oxides, sulfides and other corrosion deposits on copper, aluminum, and steel surfaces and conductors.

The purpose of a electrical contact lubricant is to prevent corrosion and lubricate the connection for easier maintenance. NO-OX-ID "A-Special" electrical grease prevents corrosion attack on all metal surfaces. Attack can come from battery acid, salt, moisture and various industrial chemical vapors in the environment. When this conductive paste is used on aluminum connectors in joints, NO-OX-ID "A-Special" prevents the reformation of oxide films, which cause high resistance and subsequent failures.

NO-OX-ID A-Special conductive grease is recommended by connector manufacturers for trouble-free joint connections. When nuts, mounting bolts, and cotter keys are coated with NO-OX-ID "A-Special", they will never rust or freeze assuring you easy, trouble-free removal. NO-OX-ID "A-Special" should be used wherever the formation of a corrosive product will effect the proper functioning of the metal surface. This electrical contact grease is easily applied, easily removed, and gives long lasting reliable performance even on dissimilar metals.

Toxicity: All NO-OX-ID products are produced from pure virgin clean raw materials and are RoHS compliant. That is why NO-OX-ID A-Special has received health certification from the EPA under NSF-Std 61 for use in drinking water tanks and is USDA approved as an electrical contact grease and general lubricant for meat & poultry plants.
