Mr. Drunk, in a few posts I've seen you say that the SS ball can be pushed down and rotated. Welp....... mine can't be. It is immovable - absolutely and completely. Do you perhaps have a Martha Stewart-esque tip for that situation? I long for a rotating ball. I dream of it, in fact.

But... if... maybe...

Nope. I've got nothin'.

Ok. I am not Mr. Drunk, nor do I play him on TV, but I would try the following.

Put a couple of drops of alcohol on said ball. Let it soak a couple of minutes. Take the eraser end of a pencil, put it exactly vertical on top of the ball, and push down really hard. Hopefully, this will pop it free, and then you can rotate your ball till your heart's content.

I know what I'm doing when I get home tonight.

Ak-dare, I will heed your sage advice and alcoholize my ball. Then with total concentration, I shall line up my eraser tipped pencil and place it EXACTLY on the vertical, right on top of my ball. Then I shall give it my best huff 'n puff. I'm stoked. I can't wait til I can roll an rotate all day long. Does one need sensible shoes to perform this activity?

Coffee. ALL OVER MY MONITOR.

Gee, thanks Kat.

OK, I am confused, I thought the alcohol went into Katdarling?

I'm inclined to believe that this is an accurate and astute assessment of the entire rotation situation.

My pleasure, DPLongolino. ;)

Your Drunkness... Now I will heed YOUR advice and also alcoholize the Katdahlink.

Ok, update, I'm rotating, but the ball remains semi-stuck. It is substantially oiled. I can push it... and push it I am, but I want to make little circles. Non-cooperative little thang. However, the door is flying on and off! :D

I suspect that your stainless steel ball is somehow stuck on the (undescended) nitrile ball underneath. This would require surgery to correct, and, as long as your door is flying open when you want, your BB can live many years without this corrective surgery.

That surgery would require not only sensible shoes, but Pants-With-Many-Pockets (apparently, my Indian name).

How FASCINATING! (and apparently mine means wants-to-rap-has sideways-cap-but-is-too-old-for-such-tom-foolery)

(who even SAYS tom-foolery)

Alrighty then, Dr. dare, I will leave well enuf alone and be pleased with my slippery door and lack of "descendants" ...

I wet one end of a qtip with WD40 and just go to town on the ball.

Go to town,,, on the ball, eh? Hmmmm... next stop, WD40ville. Thank you bornagainst. I'm looking forward to this next adventure!

ETA.. Uh oh. Nate's a no on the WD40, and pastably for very good reason.

Good point...just used it on a paper towel to wipe the edges of the sliding door and the ball. I'll get more info on that.

I had forgotten the point of my original post though....I can't email Doug through the website it seems, but any idea how to score more orange o-rings? Mine seemed to vanish when I took it apart. It doesn't impact the use of the BB, but I'd like to replace it.

Site says out of stock...but hey, it's just an O-ring so no harm in asking here.

:)

If you've got a properly sized torx driver, removing the inner plate on the BB will let you remove the ball for full cleaning and lubrication.

Theta, you can't POSSIBLY be talking to me, are you? Hon, if I can't do it with a pair of tweezers and a nail file, I'm out. :(

I have zero clue about.... torx drivers?? Anything to do with taxis or limos?

Don't think it maters at all if the ball rotates or not. The friction from the top plate is not enough to force the ball to rotate.

All that is ever needed on mine is to clean and lubricate the SS ball, the track that slides over the ball, and the outer track of both the BB body and door. The ball will/should depress a little when pushed on.

It's good to have a nice ball. Proper balling means everything slides nice and smooth, and is rewarded with that telltale satisfaction when everything fits together as it should.
