Billet Birthin' Update Feb_16th
ok guys, here's the status report. this update is going to be pretty quick as i'm finishing up some stuff tonight to get ready for a big shop cleaning tomorrow,,,, then monday, i actually assemble some boxes, hand those boxes to wife lady to pack up and drive to the post office!!! I think the way things are going to go with the shipping, will be two or three shipments a week until the end of Feb to get everybody on the pre order list out their little aluminum babies
. The first on the list will be the first to ship out, the ones on the back end of the list can expect to ship the end of the month
so, keep a look out for tracking #'s
.
We are in overdrive here in the shop, and i have lost a little interest in picture taking in the rush to get all i need to get done, done. My priority at the moment is you all on the pre order list and little else, so my focus is work. Today I am just going to show off the last of the aluminum porn, and then get back to work. Oh, before i forget, my sanding and polishing guy lost his billet box at Brewskis on 25th street in Ogden, so if your around there keep you eyes down and hunt around the pool tables
..( nope, he won't get a replacement until all the pre orders are out
., he is one sad panda)
Inner Plate,
this is one part that didn't get any changes from prototype code as they were kinda perfect the first time, so that was kind nice to not have to re write something for a change,,, i just throw some barstock into dev...
and she dose things to it
k, well actually here i did decide to change the code a little bit. When i did all that new engraving on the slide covers with the made in USA and all that, i used a different engraving bit and liked the cut it was leaving better, so I tweaked it just a little and used the new engraving bit here too
i'm a good bit happier with it
Good call me! Thanks! Your welcome. I know. God i'm lonely
so, here we go um popped out after there first machining round
but before I flip um and machine the back side, now is the time to fill the engraving
.
I tried a ton of different stuff for engraving fill, acrylic paint, pigmented lacquer, ect
but I have settled on a two stage epoxy with mixed carbon for color
. make a little batch and then scrape it into the engraving with a razor
All this engraving looks really hot without being filled, but the dial absolutely needs to be filled to be easy to read and it just looks funny if it is filled and this part isn't
after the filler is dry, the excess gets scraped away and I do a brush finish on the inner cover so it looks pretty,,, i forgot to take a picture of this as the UPS guy then delivered a new toy and we naturally had to immediately take it out of the box and say hi to it
it's a wet belt sander for the sanding and polishing monkey (did i mention
HE LOST HIS BILLET BOX AT THE BAR? yah i did, but i just want him to read this thread and reflect) to help drop sanding times
i got one other tool this week too,,,, it's call the sleeping box
. it is deceivingly comfy thanks to the little air packing thingys
k, back to it
Now i can flip um' and they get held in this jig,,,, It's an old jig and i don't like it much but i'm not in a jig making mood so i'll keep it in service a bit longer
and apparently i forgot to take a picture of what came next too
. sheesh
Anyway, other things happen, and then they come out like this
.
yahhaaa, all done
..
k, sorry for the short update, but i need to get back to making these other stuffs
.. tomorrow i clean the shop,,, omg it's a mess (like bombed), and get all ready to do some final assembly and get some in the post!!!!
