Evercool mod - a set on Flickr

Body is a chunk of lacewood, endcaps are semi-flamed maple. The red 510 connector cone is a small scrap of redheart that I turned on the lathe. Runs on 2x18650, and weighs in at a svelte 10.78 ounces, fully loaded. Display is one of those crappy 3 digit voltage checkers from madvapes or somewhere.

Not 100% happy with how the box turned out. Next time, I won't be using solid core wire, that's for sure, it's just too damn hard for me to work with, in such a small area. Had to use those huge honkin electrolytic caps, instead of the tiny tantalums I have on order, so that's some wasted space. Originally was using an on-off-on toggle switch for the voltage display, but I didn't think that one thru , and had no room for it. So that's what the small grey dots are on either side of the voltage display, tiny tact switches I scavenged from an old cable box. Left button, when pressed in conjunction with the fire button, displays output voltage if no atty is connected, and will display voltage under load if pressed while vaping. One thing I do like about this circuit, I have less than 0.05v drop while vaping. Pretty much if I set it to 5v, I get 5v.

I wanted to use a nicer looking full size pot, but had no more room (again), so I used this smaller 200 ohm trimmer that mamu turned me on to, it's not the best looking in the world, but I wasn't real cool with having to carry around a screwdriver to adjust the voltage. I suppose tho, in retrospect, I could have just used an eyeglasses screwdriver, and made a foam holder for it in between the 2 batteries, but meh. This is actually a pretty nice pot, for what it is. Nice and stiff, it's not going to accidently get turned if it gets bumped. I might go back to the lathe, and turn a small knob for it out of the same redheart that I made the 510 cone from. Who knows.

I wanted to use a lot nicer polished vandal type switch for the fire button, but again, space constraints reared their ugly heads, so I went with this crappy looking pushbutton from Cellphones R Us (formerly known as Radio Shack). Had I thought it thru a little more, I could have turned a small cap for it, and recessed a spot for it in the top endcap before I installed the switch, thus hiding that unsightly red button. Oh well.

Yes, it's pretty ginormous. I could have went with 2x 18350's, or other smaller batteries I suppose, but the way I vape, they need to last at least 24 hours. They are at 7.8v now, down from a full charge of 8.4v. I've had the circuit done for at least a week now, and it has sat on the workbench with a tank on it. I've probably hit it ~50 times a day, for the last week or so, just cause it's there, and because taking a hit from this is like someone shotgunning you with a ..... The circuit is capable of delivering 10A, and so are those CGR batteries. Hits are completely different from this mod, and say my SS VTube, using the same tank/juice/volts. I don't think battery life will be an issue here.

Well, that's about it , I guess. Comments, praise, criticism all accepted. That is all.

This is a great circuit, I built one too and it out performs anything else I have tried including a vmax. Battery life is excellent and it puts out more amperage than anything else I have tried so far. I would really like to see a picture if you can find a way to upload one. I really like the handmade wooden mods. And congrats on getting it done not a simple little board to work with.

Click the link in the OP, or this one: Evercool mod - a set on Flickr

7 or 8 pics there, in my Flickr set. Going to rip apart an old carto real quick, see if I can make a quick n dirty "inline" voltage/amperage test adapter real quick, this thing sizzles like its got enough amperage to start a car. And not a simple board at all to work with, when you're a putz like me, and don't use interconnected perfboard. That''s probably 2-3mm of the total length of the mod, just my solder bridges......

The body was actually a turning block I grabbed at woodcraft a while ago, I just squared it, resawed it, then routed out the middle of both pieces. The hinging part was pretty easy, actually. A couple brass finish nails with the heads cut off are the pivot points. I need to tune the bandsaw up tho, I've never had it to the point where I can do a clean resaw with it, and lacewood is just stupidly hard. The only part that looks bad to me is the square hole for the pot, a mortiser with a 3/8' bit would have worked perfect, but I don't have a mortiser, so it was cut with a chisel, and I didn't line one of the cuts up right, cut too much, so it's pretty sloppy.

Live and learn. The first one I made is lousy to me but others seem to like it. Check craigslist for used woodworking tools. I made myself a resaw fence and got a 25.00 resaw blade from woodcraft. I used my belt sander to remove my saw marks as I didnt have a surface planer yet. I cut out my center on a crappy scroll saw, took forever but it did a nice job. I got the tiny neo magnets on ebay from China. Woodcraft sells them too but quite expensive. I've been using 1/8" brass as locating pins and magnets to hold the lid on. I CA glue the locating pins into the cover. I drill through the cover into the body in one step. I use wipe on poly as my finish then after 2 coats I rub it with 0000 grade steel wool and wax. Then you buff off the wax for a nice shiny shine. I use oil based poly. I want to try a CA finish someday. It seems really durable.

I thought about using WOP for this, I just couldn't wait to get the damn thing done, so it got a coat of beeswax worked in, then carnauba. Probably have to do a few more coats of wax, to build up the depth of the shine, but at least I can use it in the meantime.

Now, I've used CA when doing stuff on the lathe, bracelets, rings, pens, etc, but I haven't tried it yet off the lathe. On the lathe it's a piece of cake. Drip, buff, bang, you're done, takes about 10 seconds.......lol

I think what I need to do as far as the bandsaw goes, is just take the extender block off. I don't think a 14" Delta can handle it, with the tension required for a resaw blade.

Lovely box mod, you shouldn't be so critical of it beam, it turned out really well. You guys make me envious of your developed workshops too. My plastic mitre box has all kinds of irregularities and I saw yesterday that I've sawn through one of the 90 degree slots so it looks like time to invest in a new one :p
