The connundrum of "taste"

Throughout the last few years of vaping I've come across many juices that vary from one end of the spectrum to the other, when it comes to consumer taste buds. There are a ton of juices out there who have people that absolutely love the juice ... and others who can't stand it. Ratings from 5 stars down to none, if zero stars was an acceptable rating.

But then I come across vendors like NiteLiteVapor and Alien Visions (and a handful of others) who have consistently created juices that a large percentage of people enjoy. There's no real hit and miss. There's a very good chance that should you try the juice, you'll like it. (of course there will always be a few people here an there that don't care for it, but that's natural)

I'm trying to figure out why this is so. What is the common denominator in certain juices like Bounty Hunter, Gorilla Juice, Boba's Bounty, (and several other stars on the up and coming route) that appeal to a vast variety of vapers?

I also have to note that the vendors that supply these juices have one or two (or more) that are extremely popular with many people.

So my question (to ponder) is .... what is it they are doing that other vendors aren't? Anyone have any ideas?

I think, in the case of many of my favorites, that the flavor is tapping in to my memory of something else I like. Maybe I can't identify what exactly it is but the taste reminds me of.......something.
Also, I think there's an art to flavors, especially in the world of vaping. I think it's more difficult to concoct a good vape than a good meal, so those that can create a tasty vape that has wide appeal will naturally be able to make a number of flavors with the same appeal. And those who aren't as skilled with the art of flavor will naturally find less of an audience.
In short, I would say making a fine juice is an art and those who develope a large following are masters of their art.
Or, in the case of Mt.baker (don't get me wrong, I use thier juice) it's a good price that attracts customers.
